We provide Allied Health Services to rural, regional and remote Australia so you will get the opportunity to travel to areas that you may not have the chance to do so otherwise.

We specialise in working with NDIS participants, but our services are not limited to this area. Capacity building and a person-centred focus relevant to the participant, family, and community are embedded in our model.
Our innovative values-driven approach has been making a difference in remote indigenous Australia for the past 18 months, and we are keen to expand and build on this success. We are based in Cairns providing both face-to-face and virtual health locally and with some travel to more remote communities in Queensland.
POSITION OBJECTIVES:

To provide an integrated and comprehensive person-centred allied health care model with a focus on the cultural context in which services are delivered, including:
The delivery of high-quality generalist occupational therapy clinical services, covering a range of clinical conditions, complexities, and age groups presenting in a primary healthcare environment.
Clinical care delivered both in person and via tele-health and with delegation to allied health assistants.
In-person and virtual delivery both locally and to clients in rural and remote communities, which may include the participant's home or other settings such as residential aged care, education, and community settings.

JOB KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS

Assess clients' emotional, psychological, developmental, and physical capabilities using clinical observations and standardised tests.
Complete comprehensive, evidence-based functional assessments, providing reports, recommendations to maximise their performance, and implementation as required.
Plan and deliver quality occupational therapy programs covering a range of clinical conditions, complexities, age groups, and varied cultural contexts.
Demonstrate high level professional judgment and clinical decision making to a varied caseload, adapting routine clinical practice cognizant of the environment that the client is in and based on the integration of valid and reliable evidence.
Assess and prescribe adaptive equipment, including manual wheelchairs, cushions and supports or splints, to assist clients to overcome their functional limitations.
Deliver occupational therapy services across the continuum of care while working cooperatively and effectively within a multidisciplinary team and with clients and their families, community groups, other health professionals, as required.
Seek clinical advice and support from specialist clinicians and clinical supervisor where appropriate.
Ensure all documentation and reporting is completed in a timely manner.
Provide professional clinical supervision and delegation to allied health assistants, some of which may be in remote communities, using virtual health.
Participation in Allied Health team meetings on a regular basis.

ABOUT YOU
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Demonstrated high level knowledge and skills in contemporary clinical practice standards in rural and remote occupational therapy.
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to work sensitively and effectively with First Nations communities and their leaders, respecting traditional culture, values, and ways of doing business.
Demonstrated high level understanding of the health, social and emotional wellbeing issues that impact on First Nations people in rural and remote communities.
Demonstrated experience or willingness to participate in the delivery of care through innovative service models, in particular virtual health and a supervision and delegation model.
Demonstrated ability to determine priorities and manage caseload to meet agreed timelines and objectives.
Demonstrated effective verbal and written skills with particular emphasis on interpersonal communication skills, establishing trust and rapport, maintaining confidentiality and clinical documentation.
Demonstrated competence in use of information technology, internet and desktop applications e.g. electronic client record systems, Outlook, Word, Excel, and database packages.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Occupational Therapy.
Current registration or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHRPA).
Minimum of two (2) years generalist experience in hospital and/or community Occupational Therapy.
