Description Are you an experienced reporter or section editor with excellent multi-media journalism skills? Have you been waiting for the opportunity to step into a leadership role? If so, you may be just the newsroom leader we are looking for to join our team of creative and dedicated community journalists. The Victoria Advocate is a daily paper and a member of the M. Roberts Media family of Texas newspapers. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead our newsroom in crafting compelling content both online and in print. We are seeking a journalist with an exceptional instinct for news. Someone who has demonstrated the confidence to make timely decisions and the flexibility to adapt to breaking news situations. The successful candidates will lead the newsroom in curating, editing, and publishing high-quality content across our digital platforms and print products to engage and inform our online audience. The position requires a strong understanding of journalism excellence in a daily newspaper setting. RESPONSIBILITIES: Curate and select news stories, features, and multimedia content for publication on the newspaper's digital platforms and print products. Implement SEO best practices to maximize the visibility and reach of digital content. Manage social media accounts to promote digital content and engage with the online audience. Develop and execute strategies to increase social media following and user engagement. Ensure a seamless and engaging user experience across various digital platforms. Identify trends and opportunities for improvement in content strategy. Collaborate with reporters, photographers, and other teams to coordinate coverage and maintain a cohesive digital presence. Monitor various news sources to stay abreast of current events and trending topics. Work with Reporters and Assignment Editor to ensure content is published expeditiously. Edit and proofread articles, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to the newspaper's editorial guidelines. Write and publish breaking news, daily news, sports, weather, and feature stories for the print products, website, mobile and social media pages. Write compelling headlines. Requirements ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in journalism, mass communications, or a closely related field. Strong editing and writing skills with an excellent command of grammar and AP style. Excellent news and editorial judgement. Professional experience with non-linear editing software (Adobe Premiere or equivalent) with a basic knowledge of Photoshop and video editing. Familiarity with SEO best practices and social media management. Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools. Knowledge of multimedia content production and integration. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Work well in an environment with frequent interruptions.
