We are seeking an experienced Mycologist/Microbiologist with expertise in fungal cultivation and sterile laboratory techniques to help pioneer this extraordinary field.
This rare opportunity combines hands-on mushroom cultivation, compliance with pharmaceutical-grade standards, and collaboration with regulatory and analytical teams to produce consistent, high-quality products that have the potential to change lives.
Responsibilities Cultivate Psilocybe mushrooms under sterile laboratory conditions, adhering to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.Conduct laboratory procedures such as preparing agar cultures, inoculations, and sterilizations while maintaining aseptic conditions.Collaborate with regulatory teams and analytical labs to ensure consistent and compliant products.Develop and document experimental designs, maintaining detailed and accurate records of cultivation processes and results.Operate and maintain controlled lab environments, including HVAC systems, laminar flow hoods, and environmental control panels.Requirements Proven experience maintaining aseptic conditions in controlled lab environments.Proficiency in basic laboratory practices such as gowning, making agar cultures, sterilisation, and inoculation.A strong foundation in experimental design and meticulous record-keeping.Competency with Microsoft Excel and OneDrive for data management.Tertiary qualifications in Microbiology, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.Knowledge of microbial growth, physiology, genetics, nutrient acquisition, substrate composition, and contamination control.A clean criminal record and the ability to work in a confidential industry.Experience with GACP/GMP regulatory compliance.Hands-on fungal cultivation experience, ideally with Basidiomycota.Familiarity with phenotypic and genotypic selection methods.Experience working in controlled environments requiring PPE, such as PC2 labs.Basic mechanical aptitude to operate lab infrastructure like water systems and environmental controls.What We Offer A chance to work at the forefront of an exciting and rapidly growing industry.The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in mental health care.A collaborative, supportive, and innovative work environment.Competitive compensation and flexible working hours.This position is being advertised now for a March 2025 start.
