About the RoleAs a Laboratory Technician in the microbiology department of our food & pharmaceutical laboratory, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of microbiological testing processes.
Your responsibilities will include conducting microbiological analyses in line with quality standards, identifying anomalies in samples, organizing tasks to optimize workflow, and ensuring deadlines are met.
You will also calibrate and maintain equipment, manage laboratory consumables, maintain a clean and sterile workspace, and perform calculations as needed.
In addition, the role involves adhering to strict safety protocols, completing proficiency testing activities, and assisting with other laboratory tasks as required.
The ideal candidate will have at least one year of relevant experience (a degree or diploma in microbiology or a related field is preferred), a strong understanding of microbiological techniques, knowledge of laboratory safety practices, and excellent organizational skills.
This role is a 12-month fixed term contract.
The day to dayEnsuring that analytical procedures and associated tasks which he/she is responsible for are conducted in accordance with the ALS Quality Work Instructions including QA/QC;Organising designated tasks to maximise daily efficiencies;Ensuring that all tasks and analyses are performed within both the time set down by the supervisor and the relevant analysis standard;Highlighting anomalies in results and sample type and sample behaviour to the Section Supervisor;Performing housekeeping duties as required;Calibrating equipment as required by the Section Team Leader and/or the Quality Officer;Performing calculations as required when conducting analytical preparations;Controlling consumable stock required for the tasks performed;Complete proficiency activities as required;Other duties, as requested, relating to this position.The EssentialsOne year's relevant experience (a degree or diploma preferred) and an appropriate level of aptitude depending on the tests to be allocated.An understanding of safety precautions necessary while working with samples of unknown hazard.Good chemical knowledge.Excellent organisational skills.Everyone mattersALS is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and is committed to fostering an inclusive work environment where the strengths and perspectives of each employee are both recognised and valued.
