Institution Profile The Manager, Student Advocacy leads the Student Advocacy service and team of Student Advocates and is responsible for the independent and impartial support to students across all campuses.
The Manager ensures that advocacy services are provided with the highest levels of integrity, discretion, and professionalism, acting in the best interest of students while balancing the complexities of institutional priorities and stakeholder engagement.
This role is responsible for managing the advocacy services and ensuring alignment with the needs of a diverse student cohort.
It provides expert advice and ensures adherence to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures in all advocacy processes.
The Manager, Student Advocacy will represent the advocacy service upholding the quality of advocacy support for all students and fostering collaboration across professional and academic staff to support student success.
Key Responsibilities A degree with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience in a tertiary education environment with specialist expertise in advocacy, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide staff to deliver effective advocacy services.Demonstrated expertise in advocacy, negotiation, dispute resolution, and conflict resolution, including managing complex and sensitive cases.High-level interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including professional, academic, and senior staff.Comprehensive knowledge of the tertiary education sector, including governance structures, policies, and mechanisms, and the ability to navigate these effectively.Understanding and sensitivity to the diverse needs of the student cohort, including equity and inclusion principles.Essential Compliance Requirements To hold this La Trobe University position the occupant must:
