About the team The CFO Advisory team is focused on the provision of subject-matter reporting and finance function advisory to existing and new BDO clients.
Our team specializes in subject-matter reporting and finance function advisory. As one of its service offerings, we deliver carbon accounting (i.e. measurement of an organisation's carbon footprint) and sustainability/climate reporting to existing and new BDO clients.
More broadly, the team also provides the following services, delivering fit-for-purpose outcomes to our clients:
Finance function advisory, support and transformationFinance system changeStrategic accounting (including audit readiness, financial, corporate and sustainability reporting)Transaction readiness and post-transaction integrationsFinancial governance advice to public sector and major infrastructure projectsAbout the role The purpose of this role is to bring carbon accounting expertise into the team and to deliver engagements around voluntary and mandatory sustainability reporting, carbon footprint/accounting.
This is a client-facing consulting role which requires the application of technical knowledge (GHG and NGER knowledge), feeding into climate-related reporting frameworks.
This role will also assist with CFO advisory work from time to time, which includes financial and non-financial data gathering and collection strategies, including process improvement, and financial governance.
Key responsibilities: Develop carbon inventories (Scope 1, 2, 3) including emissions boundaries, relevancy testing of sources for clients in multiple sectors using GHG protocol and/or NGER standards as guidanceAssist with data collection strategies and data collection for carbon inventories.Assist with climate-risk assessments, gap analysis.Preparation of climate-related disclosures.Provide technical expertise to assurance teams who are auditing carbon engagements.Develop market-facing materials about BDO's sustainability practice (e.g. thought leadership articles, presentations) and contribute to internal capability building through the development of tools and training.Support in developing and optimizing national methodologies to help drive efficiency and consistency across the broader carbon accounting and sustainability teams.Understand and apply the firm's quality and professional delivery standards required to deliver assurance services.Develop externally facing material about the ESG practice (e.g. articles, presentations) and contribute to capability building internally through the development of tools and training where there is capacity.Work with other team members, impart technical knowledge, grow technical knowledge and liaise with senior stakeholders.About you We're looking for a carbon-accounting expert to join us and be a SME within the team. Combined with the following:
Relevant tertiary qualification/s and related accreditations (e.g. Climate Active registration) in a discipline related to the role.Advanced knowledge in GHG and/or NGER, and application of tools and strategies in carbon measurement.Demonstrable experience in climate and carbon reporting, including reporting frameworks and executing solutions for clients.Knowledge and practical experience in consulting and project management.Strong project management, research, and presentation capabilities.Clear and effective communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.Highly developed interpersonal skills with a self-motivated approach to the role.Why BDO?
