Mackay Regional Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Governance Officer to join our team! This role is ideal for a highly skilled governance professional seeking to make a meaningful impact on the quality of governance across Council operations.
About this opportunity:
As a Senior Governance Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality governance services. Your expertise will support and guide essential governance functions, providing oversight and strategic advice to a diverse group of stakeholders including the CEO, Executive and Senior Leadership Teams, Councillors, and the broader community.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee and maintain governance frameworks, policies, and practices to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations. Provide strategic and operational governance support and advice to Council's leadership teams. Lead governance projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organisational goals. Engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to promote sound governance practices and transparency. Develop and deliver training programs on governance, compliance, and Council procedures. Prepare reports, briefings, and recommendations for Council and executive consideration. Desirable Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

Relevant tertiary qualifications in governance, law, public administration, or a related field. Demonstrated experience in a senior governance role, ideally within a government or regulatory setting. Strong knowledge of governance frameworks, principles, and compliance requirements. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. Proven problem-solving and analytical skills, with a high attention to detail. Commitment to maintaining the highest levels of integrity and confidentiality. Why work for Mackay Regional Council?

Base annual salary of $82,690.71 Up to 18% superannuation (conditions apply). Choice of 4 or 5 weeks' annual leave with 17.5% leave loading. Flexible work arrangements with a 9 day fortnight roster.
