About the RoleWe are currently seeking a Lead Approvals and Tenements to join a technically motivated and results-driven team. Reporting to the Manager Approvals, this role will lead a small team responsible for securing approvals, tenements and access to land to enable mining and mining related projects across BMA and related assets. You will also manage internal and external stakeholder relationships including local and state governments, third-party infrastructure providers, and other resource permit holders. You will coordinate approvals and access advice to a broad range of mining, exploration and related projects, and ensure accurate and timely advice is provided.
Key responsibilities of the role include: Leading a small team of dedicated tenement and approvals professionalsPlanning and coordination of external approval requirements including delivering non-environmental approvalsWorking with internal and external stakeholders to secure tenure and agreements, management of external consultants, and delivering legal requirements for accessDeveloping and implementing approvals strategies to support continuation and expansion of mining and associated activitiesProviding project input and advice to both major and minor projects on tenure, mining, and external approvals requirements, to deliver access and approvals in a timely mannerFacilitating internal SMEs to provide approvals and access advice on projectsManaging tenure negotiations, external approvals and other stakeholder engagement including with third-party infrastructure providers, other resource permit holders, local communities, and governmentsStrategic approvals planningAbout YouWe have a strong focus on finding individuals with the right values, leadership and communication skills. Your interpersonal skills will foster collaborative working relationships and your ability to consolidate and analyse information will provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude. Key requirements include: Demonstrated approvals experience in resource sector, planning or related industryUnderstanding of Queensland mining, planning and environmental legislationDemonstrated experience in securing mining and/or development approvals in Queensland (including a thorough understanding of relevant legislation and associated processes)Experience in managing and supporting the execution of multi-functional projectsAbility to support projects and programs within the business, provide advice and engage effectively at all levelsDemonstrated success in working effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, and ability to influence and enable others to achieve effective outcomesTertiary qualifications or equivalent relevant experience (e.g. Legal, Town Planning, Environmental, Engineering).About Our ProcessAt BHP, we are committed to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the requirements of the role.
