Description New Forests (www.newforests.com) seeks a self-motivated individual for this newly created part-time position. Working within the Investments team focused on Australia and New Zealand, you will be given broad exposure to investment activity across natural capital investments including forestry, agriculture, carbon, and related infrastructure.
This role would suit a commerce or law student or recent graduate with an interest in natural capital and ideally experience in forestry or agriculture. To be successful in this role, you will need a high level of initiative and curiosity, a calm and orderly approach, and the ability to take ownership and successfully deliver projects within a dynamic environment. You will thrive on working in a team environment towards a common goal, have a flexible style, fantastic communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of teams that come together for specific projects.
Key Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the Investments team across all investment transactions in Australia and New Zealand. With guidance and support from the Investments team, accepting responsibility for specific delegated tasks associated with large scale investment transactions. Developing skills in the investment analysis of potential target investments. Assisting in the maintenance of the investment pipeline and transaction database on behalf of the investments team. Assisting in the preparation of regular reports on Investment activity and transactions (e.g. quarterly reports, special client reports). Assisting specific investment research projects that support investment activity on behalf of clients. Assisting in the development of data analysis, dashboards, and other tools designed to better enable the wider team and increase team efficiency. Assisting with Company Secretary, Operations, Analytics, and Investor Services Departments, as may be required from time to time. Establishing broad and constructive relationships across New Forests. Maintaining a proactive approach to all Investment Team activities, including debates on target investments, preparation of written material, due diligence processes, and identification of new investment opportunities. Qualifications, Experience and Strengths We are looking for candidates with:
High levels of initiative, curiosity, and the ability to problem solve. Experience in the field of forestry or agriculture (highly desirable, but not required). Experience using AI tools to problem solve and automate tasks (desirable but not required). Relevant undergraduate qualifications (completed or near completion). Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Excellent Microsoft Office skills including PowerPoint and Excel (particularly financial modelling). Strong time management and organisational skills. Good analytical skills and keen attention to detail. Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver projects on time. Ability to build strong relationships and work within a team environment. Ability to think outside the box, contribute to debate, and communicate ideas and suggestions effectively.
