About the Business Unit The Department of Justice and Community Safety has established a new business unit, Liquor Control Victoria, to support the independent Victorian Liquor Commission which was created on 1 July 2022. Liquor Control Victoria supports the independent Commission by providing strategic, operational and administrative support and by performing various regulatory functions under delegation.
The Victorian Liquor Commission, supported by Liquor Control Victoria, is responsible for issuing liquor licences and overseeing industry compliance and enforcement to ensure that Victorians and visitors to the state enjoy safe and responsible liquor licensed environments.
This is an exciting time to join Liquor Control Victoria and to be part of something new and growing. We are strengthening our focus on harm minimisation and assessment of community impacts as part of our regulatory approach following major reforms to liquor licencing laws that commenced in 2022.
About the Role Reporting to a Team Leader, this role is primarily responsible for carrying out compliance activities in Metro Melbourne, however you may be required to travel and conduct operations anywhere within Victoria. Your main functions can include conducting discreet attendances, surveillance, overt inspections, investigations, complaint handling and enforcement functions
In addition, you may be responsible for conducting risk management discussions, conducting joint operations with other regulators, including Victoria Police and compiling reports and other documents for the purposes of prosecution or disciplinary action. When necessary, this role will recommend relevant enforcement actions, such as commencing a criminal investigation or other enforcement action in accordance with policies and procedures.
The role demands flexibility as it requires shift work with variable shift patterns, including afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts, and occasionally requires travel to regional Victoria. After completing your training, you will be assigned to one of the Metro Regulatory Teams.
Some of your duties will include:
Undertaking inspections and observations of liquor venues and licensed events in accordance with the allocated inspection/investigations regime provided by divisional management.Conduct investigations involving alleged breaches of the legislation administered by the Commission.Identify existing or potential risks of non-compliance or social harm arising from the operation of licensed premises and work with licensees to identify, negotiate and implement appropriate responses to ameliorate that risk.Resolve operational issues and manage all complaints promptly and effectively, in accordance with policies and procedures.Engaging with stakeholders and community organisations with a focus on developing and implementing strategies to minimise alcohol related harms To learn more about this role before applying, please read the attached position description.

Demonstrated experience undertaking compliance workDemonstrated experience and expertise in undertaking analysis and reporting on dataExperience in conducting and managing investigations and preparing briefsA strong ability to accept changed priorities without undue discomfort, and respond quickly to changesA strong ability to proactively resolve issues through a deep understanding of existing guidelinesA strong ability to build a supportive and cooperative team environment and work collaboratively to respond to issues.
