Major Accountabilities/Principal Responsibilities: Join Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking (SG CIB) as a Graduate Trainee in Sydney, Australia within our Investment Banking (IBD) business line in Debt Capital Markets. We are currently looking for a Graduate Trainee – Debt Capital Markets to join us on a full-time fixed term basis for 24 months. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team and get hands-on experience within a fast-paced, results-focused, global organization. The successful candidate will gain experience in all stages of a capital markets transaction and will have an active role in a client-facing team. This includes having exposure to working in a fast-moving industry, where the scope of work will cover the wide range of a financing business line activity, from marketing and origination through to execution and closing.
This market-leading Debt Capital Markets (DCM) team is responsible for addressing borrowers' needs in terms of raising and managing capital in the debt capital markets. The client base for DCM includes corporate borrowers, financial institutions, the public sector, and sovereigns globally.
In terms of debt origination, DCM's activity covers issuance of bonds across the capital structure, including senior and subordinated debt, covered bonds, green, sustainable, and sustainability-linked, in addition to ESG, balance sheet, capital and liability management advisory. DCM's activity also covers transaction management advisory. We adopt a solutions-based approach to advising our clients and where relevant we collaborate closely with ratings advisory, debt solutions and derivative solutions teams to deliver a complete service to the borrower.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in enabling the team to:
Build and manage strong and sustainable client relationships with target issuers in Australia and New Zealand, namely corporates and financial institutions Identify capital market trends and address clients' needs in terms of raising and managing capital in the debt capital markets Provide best-in-class advisory to the client base Provide views on macro-economic trends and what that means for clients Represent DCM in all internal dialogues Your main tasks will include:
Generating pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients' needs Leading the preparation of marketing documents (market updates, peer analysis, secondary pricing performance, primary pricing indications, sales memorandums) Monitoring primary market developments (recent transactions, pipeline, and market rumours) Preparing the update of relevant capital markets data Assisting in the end-to-end execution of transactions Producing bespoke pieces of analysis for clients Performing regular research on latest product developments and potential/existing business opportunities Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Required: University degree in a relevant discipline (Law, Commerce, Finance, Accounting or Engineering) Post graduate qualifications considered favorably No previous experience necessary however previous DCM or Investment Banking experience would be considered favorably Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills Ability to articulate complex concepts in both written and verbal format Behavioral Competencies Required: Ability to manage self in prioritizing tasks and managing competing deadlines Ability to work within a dynamic environment with stakeholders across the fixed income chain from Sydney to Singapore, Hong Kong, London, Paris, and New York Working (including remotely) with people from diverse, international backgrounds Ability to work in a small team and take ownership of responsibilities Fast learning, flexible with an appetite to learn Functional Relationships: Internal: staff from business divisions and support functions locally, regionally, and globally
