We are looking for an enthusiastic GIS & Data Analyst who has the qualifications and practical experience to assist with a diverse range of environmental projects. You will be working as part of a highly experienced team of scientists, engineers and chemists. The successful candidate will support teams co-ordinating / undertaking baseline studies, conducting environmental impact assessment, obtaining environmental approvals and providing environmental management advice for a range of projects. You will have opportunities to work on an exciting range of GIS and remote sensing projects across multiple sectors and will be encouraged to use innovative approaches to grow a range of GIS and data analytic services to help our clients meet their needs.
The role will require you to develop and maintain the MBS platforms, collection tools and data management procedures. In addition, you will support day to day GIS requirements including the creation and maintenance of metadata, map production, GIS analysis, technical software user support and troubleshooting for other team members.
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate delivery of outcomes in the following key areas:
Reporting Skills: Able to analyse and condense technical data into fit for purpose maps, figures, reports and presentations. Able to deliver to project timelines and meet required quality standards. Communication: Able to engage with others to effectively achieve outcomes. Able to understand and communicate key messages relevant to clients. Able to develop, apply, and share technical expertise in a particular field with other team members. Able to supervise and mentor junior GIS staff. Project Management: Able to identify required outcomes and use appropriate tools to deliver them. Able to effectively engage with technical personnel, managers, and/or regulators. Able to define and resolve problems within their technical area. Business Development: Developing own professional network, including within professional bodies and clients. Able to identify potential opportunities for future work and assist with realisation of these. Qualifications and Experience Relevant tertiary qualifications in GIS, spatial science or computer science. 3 to 5 years' experience in GIS and data management roles. Previous experience in application of GIS to environmental science will be well regarded. Thorough understanding of GIS techniques, cartographic standards and best-practice data management. Demonstrated ability to uphold corporate data management and cartographic standards, while completing work requests promptly. Understanding of remote sensing technology. Use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) will be well regarded. High level of proficiency with modern GIS software, ideally including QGIS and ability and willingness to learn new systems. Previous experience in mining industry or development projects, either through consulting work or direct employment will be well regarded. Required Skills and Knowledge Information management, database design, data integrity and data integration. Spatial analysis and spatial operations with vector, raster and terrain data. Understanding of remote sensing technology. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage workloads with little or no supervision and negotiate priorities for multiple projects.
