Practice Information:
This Medical Centre is a 5-doctor practice. They are mixed private and bulk billing practice. It has been operating for over 13 years now with very modern medical equipment and state of art technology. The Practice Principal is an adjunct JCU lecturer, PEP tutor and an accredited GMT registrar training supervisor as well. They are a training practice and have dedicated protected sessions with Their GPs once a week for teaching.
The clinic is in the Centre of the town, 1.5km away from the hospital, the main shopping Centre is 2 km away. They have a pathology and a Dental Clinic beside the clinic as well. They also have a team of visiting allied health, including Tele-Psychologist/Psychiatrist, Exercise Physiologist, Diabetic Educator, Gynaecologist, Optometrist, Mental health nurse and Audiologist see patients at the clinic.
They have a full-time Practice Manager on site every day. The practice has 4 nurses working at the clinic, who assist the doctors run the Chronic disease clinic. The Medical Centre has a dedicated Skin Clinic as well, which has a HD Molemax. They are also an allocated Covid vaccination clinic. The main clientele is the young and retirees, mine workers and travelers, as the main highway (Bruce Highway) crosses the township. They offer family medicine covering broad general practice, occupational health, and the practice has the right to private practice at Sarina Hospital too. Referrals are made to the base hospital. The practice is also equipped for Telehealth Conferences and has a dedicated room for telehealth.
Sarina is a very close-knit community, whereby we have a very good community support; the doctors have a very good relationship with patients. They hold occasional health awareness seminars which involve the community. Sarina has a small rural hospital with 16 beds and an aged care facility as well. Most referrals are looked after by the Mackay Base Hospital and the private hospitals in the region. The practice has frequent visiting specialists coming into the region as well. There is a pathology collection Centre and a full-time Medical Imaging Centre including Ultra-sound/Echo facility in Sarina. Sarina is supported by the NQPHN, which helps with supporting GP through their various allied health, coordination of continuous medical education workshops, organizing meetings etc.
About Sarina:
Sarina is a rural town with a population of approximately 15,000 people; it is situated 35km south of Mackay. It is surrounded by 5 lovely beaches providing access to recreational, boating and fishing. Whitsunday islands are further north which is in easy access as well to view the Great Barrier Reef. The town has a public high school, state and a catholic private primary school and family day-care services. Children travel to private high schools in Mackay. Bus services are provided from Sarina for workers and children traveling to Mackay.
There are two coal export facilities approximately 10 km away. Sarina has a sugar mill and an alcohol distillery as well. Dairy, cattle grazing, tropical fruit growing, horticulture, aquaculture, fishing and tourism provide further development in the region. It has a very tropical climate. We have daily flights to and from Mackay to Brisbane and neighboring Cities. Opportunities for family, spouse and partners for work is greater in Mackay and the neighboring coal mines.
Position Description:
Practice is offering a full-time GP position from a single Practice location which is remunerated as a percentage of the doctor's gross billings. The doctor works weekday morning and afternoon sessions (nominally 8 hours per day) with a weekday afternoon off duty which can be optional; the doctor can work Saturdays 1:4.
Some procedural skills like minor operations, including skin excisions, curettes, biopsies will be of advantage as well but not necessary, supervision and training will be provided. The practice looks after nursing home and palliative care patients as well. Patient load per week is approximately 150/week.
After Hours:
The clinic opens on Saturdays therefore the doctors work 1:4 rotation on Saturdays. A very minimal after-hours load, as Sarina Hospital looks after all the after-hours emergency patients.
