After Hours Requirements: Nights on call - very rarely get calls.
Practice Information: This mixed billing medical centre is well-established, having opened in 1961, when the two existing town practices amalgamated to improve the services to the area. The practice now comprises 2 doctors and 8 staff. The practice is accredited and committed to providing comprehensive general practice care to individuals, families and the community. They believe in quality over quantity. All consultations and records are kept strictly confidential. They service both local aged care facilities. And are fully accredited to standard 5. Dr David Cairncross is the practice principal at Bowen Medical Centre. The Practice is a fully accredited training practice and has full-time and part-time GP positions available. Dr Cairncross has been a senior lecturer in the school of medicine for James Cook University (which is located in Townsville) for the last 15 years and the practice has med students routinely in year 2 and 4 of their studies. One of our other doctors is a Russian medical graduate who has been with us the last 10 years. She is an excellent doctor who married a local man from Bowen and then later moved to Bowen.
Position Description: Reporting to the Practice Principal, the purpose of the General Practitioner is to provide competent patient-centered care that addresses health needs and promotes wellness. Such care is based on the latest evidence and guidelines and meets legislative requirements.
Responsibilities: Providing skilled health assessment, diagnosis and treatment services to patients.Ordering diagnostic tests as needed and checking and informing patients of results in accordance with the practice's procedure.Referring patients appropriately to other providers if their needs exceed the range of care you are able to provide.Consulting and collaborating with colleagues to provide optimal care.Documenting all care provided and education/information given to patients within their health record, in accordance with the practice's procedure.Maintaining professional knowledge and standards through continuing medical education and personal professional development.Having a working knowledge of legislation and standards of general practice.Practising medicine in a way that reflects the company's values and mission. Maintaining trust (professional relationships with patients).Providing services courteously and respectfully, with regard to the cultural beliefs and needs of patients.Responding openly and following up on complaints or feedback. Working collaboratively with colleagues.Collaborating with regard to rosters and on-call and providing cover to ensure patients' needs are met.Working constructively and harmoniously with all staff to ensure patients receive optimal care.Involvement in practice accreditation activities.Participating in centre-based audits and activities. Maintaining integrity in professional practice.Charging for consultations in accordance with the practice's policy.Declaring vested interests in services to which you may refer patients.Returning telephone calls in a timely manner.Completing documents (i.e. medical reports) in a timely manner.Clearing the holding file for correspondence daily.Participating in centre-based audits.Demonstrating a working knowledge of company policy with regard to clinical practice as described in the practice manuals.Reporting 'events' or untoward incidents in accordance with professional obligations and practice policy.Using the computer effectively (i.e. recall and reminder systems, data input).Keeping up to date with new item numbers, SIPs and incentive payments.Ensuring your immunisation status is kept up to date.Always be well-presented, friendly, courteous and obliging. Represent the practice in a confident and positive manner at all times.Undertake all duties in a diligent manner, with honesty and integrity.Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding patient and practice information.Have a vigilant attitude to accuracy, being prepared to double-check as necessary.Demonstrate an ability to work cooperatively and independently, and the ability to prioritise and organise.Qualifications & Experience: Registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.Current medical indemnity insurance.Current driver's licence.Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate.Salary Information: Percentage of billings. 60% plus GST.
About Bowen: Bowen is a country town with a population of 14,000 people in winter months in an agricultural area known for its small crop production and mangoes. It is a beautiful area on the coast in the Whitsunday Region of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. They have many international travellers who visit the area for its natural beauty. The people in the town are very welcoming and the town has a very low crime rate. There is easy access to major centres via air, road or rail travel. Bowen is home of the Big Mango. Gorgeous beaches are all easily accessible as well as dog friendly walking trails. The local shops are great and are run by lovely local people. Bowen has both public and private CT scanning, Xray and ultrasounds in town. Whitsunday Islands are only hour away with boutique restaurants and an airport with connecting flights worldwide.
