You will bring your background/education in a technical area (Statistics, Data Science, Econometrics, Actuary etc.) as well as your strong mathematics and problem-solving skills to the role. How will I help?
As a Fraud Analyst, you will join the Intel Analytics team working on a range of strategic pieces of work where you will experience a constant stream of interesting data problems with tangible impacts on Westpac and its customers. Working closely with the fraud intelligence team, you will be responsible for designing, testing, and deploying rules and machine learning models to identify and mitigate fraudulent activity occurring using Westpac Group products. The role will require you to analyse past data as well as new trends in suspicious customer activity to mitigate risks using your creativity, critical thinking, and mathematics knowledge.
Key Accountabilities
Analyse and interrogate data to support detection of banking fraud (such as money muling and crime syndicates).
Identify emerging fraud trends.
Make continual improvements to our fraud detection system rules.
Maintain and create internal automated reporting through dashboard and website creation.
Become an expert in payment systems and processes.
What do I need?
Recent or soon to complete Tertiary Qualification in relevant disciplines such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or Econometrics etc.
Have some technical knowledge in SQL/Python/R or other programming languages used to interrogate and manipulate large data sets and fit statistical models.
Experience or keen interest in games such as strategy board games or chess is advantageous as these display similar thought processes to fraud detection.
Great communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to think creatively to solve problems.
