The role As the First Nations Nurse Program Leader, you will report directly to the Chief Nurse Officer, taking on a crucial role in providing strategic leadership and direction for nursing activities within the program. Your expertise will be instrumental in contributing to the strategic and policy development of the Office of the Chief Nurse Officer to achieve best practice outcomes.
In this position, you will be entrusted with analysing emerging trends related to contemporary models of care, educational initiatives, and health service priorities. Your thorough evaluation will encompass the impact of undergraduate and postgraduate education and training on the supply of First Nation nurse workforce, ensuring it meets the demands of the labour market.
Collaboration will be at the core of your responsibilities, as you engage with diverse stakeholders to shape professional strategic directions, imperatives, and actions. Your valuable contributions will foster the growth and governance of the First Nation workforce and services. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and evaluating innovative nursing practice and service delivery models. These efforts are geared towards achieving excellence in First Nation patient and service outcomes, benefiting health homes, Clinical Excellence Queensland partners, and all professionals involved in the program.

The successful person To be successful in this role, you must be of Aboriginal Australian and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; and identify as an Aboriginal Australian and/or Torres Strait Islander. You will have comprehensive knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues and priorities at a national and state level, and an understanding of the implications for policy, service delivery and workforce to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
In addition to this, you will have leadership, conceptual and analytical skills, and the demonstrated ability to formulate and communicate strategic and authoritative advice relevant to complex Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues and the ability to report to the Minister and/or Departmental leaders on a range of nursing professional issues, and demonstrated understanding of, and ability to, contribute to and develop strategic human resource management strategies for the nursing professions including the development of evidence-based policy, parameters / indicators, and metrics to evaluate effectiveness in the quality of nursing practice and practice development.
