About The OPPORTUNITYWe have an exciting new opportunity for a Firmware Engineer to join our Surveillance and Communications business unit based in Adelaide's defence precinct Edinburgh Parks, SA where we deliver key programs related to radar networks, high-frequency surveillance and other capabilities for our customers.
Reporting to the Hardware Development Lead, you will be integrating into a small hardware team, to develop and maintain hardware supporting mission-critical defence radar systems in accordance with contractual and Company requirements. The primary function of this role is to support current product FPGA firmware and next-generation hardware development activities.
Key responsibilities include:Design and develop new VHDL (Virtual Hardware Description Language) firmwareMaintain current product line, and engineering support for hardware and firmwareWorking collaboratively within a team including mentoring junior engineersUndertake product level testing and hardware integration activitiesCollaborate with various engineering disciplines including software, systems, ILS and qualityProduce detailed design and test documentation and procedures to meet contractual project requirementsAbout YOUA university degree level qualification in an appropriate disciplineKnowledge and understanding of the engineering development lifecycleDefence security clearance or eligibility to obtainEligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulationsExperience in Intel FPGA VHDL firmware development cycles3 plus years of experience with Modelsim/Questasim Advanced Simulator and TCL scriptingHardware level debugging including tools such as SignalTapFamiliarisation with TCP/IP and network protocolsExperience with the below would be highly regarded:Radar principlesDigital Signal Processing, MATLAB design, VHDL implementationRF / Analog circuit designSchematic capture and PCB design using tools such as Altium DesignerHigh speed, controlled impedance, multilayer PCB layout, designing for MIL-STD-461Hardware simulation tools such as LTspice and GenesysWe embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia such as working a 9-day fortnight.
