About the Building Commission NSW
The new Building Commission NSW has been established after the NSW Government recognised the substantial progress made by Fair Trading and the Office of the Building Commissioner in delivering once-in-a-generation reforms of the building and construction industry. The new commission will not only be the industry regulator, but also a collaborator with consumers and industry to ensure standards, capabilities, capacity, and resilience continue to be lifted across the sector to deliver quality homes and meet the state's housing targets.

This role provides a range of high-level support the Assistant Building Commissioner, including the management of financial, operational and people matters, and leading a small steam of support staff.
The Assistant Building Commissioner leads teams that are responsible for a range of operational functions including licensing, complaints handling, compliance and enforcement.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing, managing and reviewing the provision of high-level communications and correspondence including briefings, reports, submissions and notes to ensure the comprehensiveness, accuracy, and timeliness of written information.
- Acting as the Executive point of contact liaise with stakeholders and action requests to coordinate communication and proactively ensure responses meet deadlines.
- Implementing, monitoring, and reporting on strategic, operational and project plans to inform decision making and support achievement of organisational objectives.
- Researching and preparing strategic advice, information, and reports on diverse and complex policy, planning and operational matters to facilitate informed decision making and planning.
- Providing issue management and support, responding to emerging issues to ensure effective resolution with minimal risk to the organisation.
- Leading and/or contributing to projects to support the achievement of organisation level strategic and operational objectives.
- Developing and oversee the implementation and evaluation of administrative practices, systems and procedures to optimise efficiency and support the achievement of quality outcomes.

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, monitor, and report on effective plans and strategies for achieving organisational goals.
- The ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with staff, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial management principles and the ability to manage budgets and financial resources effectively.
- Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to make sound and informed decisions.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands.
- Experience in leading teams, or in influencing people leadership and change management.- Experience in leading the delivery of secretariat services.
