We are seeking a motivated and outcomes focused Executive Director (ED) to lead our professional membership organisation. Our national office manages the administration and implementation of a range of activities for our not-for-profit group with over 4000 members and partners. As the leader you will be actively involved in managing our national office staff, you will also champion member advocacy and engagement as our lead communicator.
The Australian Institute of Building has a long and valuable history in the professional qualification of building and construction professionals in Australia, with Chapters in each State, Territory and a considerable overseas presence.
It supports the career development of its members by ensuring access to industry-relevant university construction programs, delivering professional development opportunities in the form of breakfasts, seminars and conferences, and providing access to information via its website, magazines, newsletters and peer-reviewed academic journals and on-line CPD portal.
This senior role carries the responsibility for the national administration and management of a not-for-profit organization. As a high priority you will be required to actively participate and contribute to the efficient administration and sound financial performance for the organisation.
The ideal candidate would have experience in managing a not-for-profit or similar organisation / association and have demonstrated experience in the preparation and administration of policy decisions of the National Board. You would be required to provide strategic support to the Board in the areas of membership, marketing, sponsorship and professional accreditation. An understanding of the public policy environment at the National and State levels would be an advantage.
This position requires you to be a dynamic person with a high level of business acumen, excellent communication and presentation skills, high computer literacy skills and a well-rounded knowledge of the drivers of business. You will lead and manage a small team to continue to execute strategies for growth within the framework of a voluntary Board. Ideally you will have experience in administration, finance, marketing, and HR. An understanding of the building and construction industry and its regulation Nationally, and in each State and Territory, as well as vocational education and training (VET) as it applies to building (not the building trades) and tertiary (university) education systems would be highly regarded.
Your responsibilities also include:
• Understand not-for-profit accounting principles and manage budgets at both a project and whole-of organisation level;
• Manage staff, volunteers and stakeholder relationships;
• Negotiate agreements with clients, suppliers and kindred professional institutes;
• Manage business opportunities to maximise a return for the Organisation.
 
This position is offered on a permanent full-time basis and is located in Canberra. A remuneration package will be negotiated for the right candidate.
