The Executive Director, Financial Assets & Liabilities offers a unique opportunity to shape the financial and policy landscape of the State. In the role, you will provide advice to senior department leaders including the Secretary and Ministers, drive strategic decision-making on the management of the State's financial assets, liabilities, and corporate treasury functions. You will influence key financial strategies, oversee the governance of public financial corporations, and ensure the delivery of impactful outcomes aligned with the government's priorities.
About us The Department of Treasury and Finance provides economic, financial, and resource management advice to help the Victorian Government deliver its policies. We strive for excellence in financial and economic management to improve the lives of all Victorians.
Division The Commercial Division is accountable for providing advice on the state's financial assets and liabilities, along with oversight of the Government's business enterprises. It takes a lead role in overseeing significant government commercial transactions, providing both transaction advisory services and advice. Additionally, the Division manages workplace safety, housing-related funds and loan schemes, and the regulatory function that provides oversight of the performance of the community housing sector in Victoria.
About the role Key accountabilities include providing expert advice on complex policy areas such as workplace safety, compensation schemes, and public sector pensions, whilst embedding best practice frameworks to manage investments and financial risks. The role demands exceptional stakeholder engagement skills to navigate diverse perspectives, foster collaboration, and maintain strong relationships with senior government officials, industry leaders, and external stakeholders.
About you We are seeking applications from candidates with demonstrable experience in:
Highly developed leadership and management skills with an ability to motivate and harness capability across a varied and multi-skilled team and to achieve cross-organisation collaboration.Proven experience in leading and overseeing complex financial functions, preferably in the areas of corporate finance and corporate treasury.Experience role modelling expected behaviours, developing enduring constructive cultures, and providing organisational context to enable sustained delivery in a multi-disciplinary function.Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to translate technical advice into impactful advice.Proven ability to develop strategic networks and foster effective working relationships with a wide range of key senior stakeholders including ministers and their offices.Demonstrated high-level commercial, policy, and analytical skills and experience.Experience and qualifications A comprehensive understanding of the workings of government.Extensive experience delivering policy advice, managing programs, and managing resources in a complex environment requiring sound judgement and management of risk.Post-graduate qualifications in finance, business, or a related discipline are desirable but not mandatory.About our culture We aim to be a model employer providing an inclusive workplace that is understanding and respectful of differences such as gender, identity, race, disability, or age.
