We're seeking Correctional Officers (COs) & Operations Support Officers (OSOs) with excellent communication and conflict resolution skills to join us at Mount Gambier Prison for February 2025, with interviews in Mount Gambier in mid-November. COs work directly with prisoners, and OSOs have minimal prisoner contact.
We run an 8 - 9 week paid training program for new starters which includes training in standard operating procedures, self-defence, radio training, report writing, first aid & CPR, communication skills, incident response, x-ray and ion scan screening, fire training, and more.
Correctional Officers
Our Correctional Officers work directly with prisoners and play a critical role in prisoner case management, monitor their rehabilitation activities, conduct daily searches and counts, undertake security patrols, write case notes and prepare reports.
Training - 9 weeks (4 weeks of classroom & 5 weeks of job shadowing). Training will include defensive tactics training, which runs for 8 hours over 3 days. You will also enrol to complete your Cert 3 in Correctional Practice over your first 12 months. Rates - $60,351 p.a. for your training | $74,299 p.a. after training | $80,326 p.a. once fully accredited. Roster - 3 days a week | 12.5-hour shifts | Mix of weekdays, nights, weekends & public holidays. Operations Support Officers
Our OSOs have minimal prisoner contact and conduct x-ray screening, search visitors upon entry, work in the prison property area, operate the prison control room, monitor CCTV and support key administrative prison functions.
Training - 8 weeks (3 weeks of classroom & 5 weeks of job shadowing). Training will not include defensive tactics training, but will include self defence training. Rate - $70,416 p.a. Roster - 3 to 4 days a week | 8-hour to 12.5-hour shifts | Mix of weekdays, nights, weekends & public holidays. What we're looking for
Able to work a rotating 24/7 roster, including public holidays & weekends Holder of an Australian driver's licence or probationary permit Physically and mentally fit - able to pass a medical & psychological assessment Full Australian working rights Happy to work in a non-smoking prison The recruitment process
