RoleThis position is full-time and fixed term.
This Engagement Officer will work in conjunction with the existing Engagement Officers team.
The core focus is on reducing the numbers of students who are at risk of disengaging from school, including upper primary aged students who may be at risk in the transition from primary school to secondary school.
There will be a requirement to work cooperatively with the secondary schools and their nominated key feeder primary schools.
This partnership will support students and families where there are specific challenges to providing an appropriate education pathway for an individual child or young person.
The emphasis is on building the capacity of school based staff to meet students at their point of need and in doing so build educational engagement, including successful transition from primary to secondary school and ultimately the successful completion of year 12 or equivalent.The successful applicant will demonstrate the capacity to work with schools to develop comprehensive transition plans for those most at risk.
This may include supporting and developing PSD funding applications / reviews in addition to planning and delivering transition programs.The successful applicant will have an extensive knowledge of service provision within the Ballarat area, which can be used to support successful learning interventions and highly individualised education pathway plans for children and young people at risk of not completing year 12 or equivalent.
This will include the full suite of DET SSS programs and services.The Engagement Officer will demonstrate ability to successfully plan, implement and evaluate programs that boost engagement, in line with current DET policy relating to youth between the ages of 10-17.
This may be in liaison with community agencies and government institutions.The Engagement Officer will be able to work independently, as well as with relevant school staff including existing Engagement Officers and the Principals of Mount Rowan Secondary College, Woodman's Hill Secondary College, Ballarat High School, Mount Clear College and Phoenix P-12 Community College or their delegate.
The successful applicant will demonstrate high level knowledge and expertise in teaching; proven ability to teach literacy and numeracy is preferred.The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to plan strategically, setting goals and targets that increase engagement and year 12 completion across the 5 Ballarat secondary schools.The successful candidate must have a current Victorian Motor Vehicle driver's licence and will be required to undertake travel between schools and service agencies.ResponsibilitiesAssist schools in establishing individualised education programs or pathways for identified children or young people.
Assist with the implementation and monitoring of this program, resulting in increased engagement and school completion.Take a lead role in the delivery of capability training to Teachers and Educational Support Officers, including professional learning and mentoring to deliver an agreed course of action aimed at lifting learner engagement and achievement outcomes.
Develop, implement and evaluate transition plans for students preparing to make the transition from primary school to secondary school.
This may include students in grade 5 and 6.Foster links with organisations, services and agencies that support the learning, development and wellbeing of students to support the development of additional engagement programs focusing on disengaged youth between the ages of 10-17, this includes DET services.Work with Ballarat secondary and feeder primary schools to build the capacity of teaching staff to respond to learning needs of individual students, especially those are at risk of disengagement when making the transition from primary school to secondary school, or not successfully completing year 12 or equivalent.Develop, implement and evaluate programs for parents and carers of disengaged students,Utilise the full range of DET resources to support an individual child or young person at risk of not completing year 12 or equivalent.Work with the nominated schools to increase attendance of all students and those who are disengaged and at risk of not completing year 12 or equivalent,Utilise highly developed negotiation and communication skills in a range of mediums to facilitate increased engagement for identified students.Establish and strengthen links and referral pathways between all relevant entities to optimise support for identified students at risk of not completing year 12 or equivalent.Undertake other duties as directed by the Board of Management Chairperson, in response to changing priorities or new initiatives.Who May ApplyApplicants should have a relevant tertiary qualification and extensive experience in schools.
Teachers must be currently registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
Experience working with flexible learning options and individualised student plans would be an advantage.

Information on the DET values is available at Other InformationThe role will be managed by the Board of management, formed by the Principals of the five Ballarat Secondary schools.VIT LANTITETo be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements.
This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.Location ProfileBallarat is a large regional city located approximately 100km from Melbourne.The Engagement Officer positions provide services to the five DET Ballarat Secondary Education providers and their feeder primary schools.
As such the successful applicant would with negotiation with the team spend time working at Mount Rowan Secondary College, Woodman's Hill Secondary College, Ballarat High School, Mount Clear College and Phoenix P-12 Community College and their nominated key feeder primary schools
