Engagement Assistant Director, South Queensland RegionThe Engagement Assistant Director position plays a pivotal role supporting the NIAA to work in genuine partnership and enable self-determination of First Nations Communities.
The job is crucial in building collaborative relationships with First Nations people and communities to ensure effective policy implementation that aligns to aspirations of First Nations communities.
Delivering high-quality services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, through effective management of daily activities and collaborative leadership are critical to the success of the role.
By fostering strong internal and external relationships, especially with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, and providing expert guidance and constructive feedback, they contribute to business improvement and uphold a healthy, ethical workplace aligned with APS standards.
This role is essential for ensuring high-quality service delivery and successful project execution within the branch, benefiting both the team and the communities they serve.
This vacancy is part of the place-based team located in Toowoomba.
The Toowoomba sub-region covers communities including Charleville, Cunnamulla, Goondiwindi and Cherbourg.
Work travel is required as part of the Assistant Director role.
Additional travel to other NIAA sites across the network including Canberra, may be required.
A full driver's license is a requirement for this role.

Then we want you! The South Queensland Region (SQR) has place-based offices in Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Brisbane.
We are seeking an Assistant Director – Engagement based in Toowoomba, who will support strategic initiatives to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the Toowoomba sub-region.
The role involves overseeing program delivery, fostering partnerships and supporting place-based program and policy implementation to ensure that community needs and aspirations are met through effective and culturally responsive service delivery.
The position is integral to implementing strategies that support place-based, local and regional decision-making, enabling communities to have a voice in the policies and programs that affect them.
The Assistant Director role will oversee and guide day-to-day operational activities of the Toowoomba based team to deliver high quality services and policy implementation.
They are responsible for ensuring that performance measures for the team are met.
They may undertake management or oversight of small projects for the team or work with larger projects in the region.
The Assistant Director cultivates a team with a supportive culture.
They encourage innovation and an environment where staff are valued and committed to producing quality outcomes.
They coach, share expertise and technical knowledge with team members, peers and more broadly across the agency.
The Assistant Director promotes a healthy and safe workplace environment, and models ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and Values.
This role includes the following duties and is expected to lead and support the team with:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide high quality information in a clear concise manner.Be an effective communicator with the ability to quickly build relationships with stakeholders.Be professional, model the NIAA values and behaviours in all aspects of the position and demonstrate sound knowledge of the functions and objectives of the Agency.Demonstrate analytical, research and problem-solving skills.Exercise excellent decision-making skills and judgement, and have the ability to work independently and respond quickly to competing priorities.Ability to work effectively and sensitively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including IAS funded providers.Demonstrate the ability to learn and navigate a wide range of IT systems.Results-driven in order to be strategic and identifying emerging opportunities or issues.Plan and coordinate the team's workflow to ensure the team is meeting its deliverables.Clear understanding of the matters impacting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples and high-level capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency.What We Offer: We have exciting work with real purpose.

To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
