We are seeking experienced and motivated policy leaders to join Safe Work Australia (SWA) to drive high priority national reforms to support safe and healthy workplaces across Australia.
The work of the Chemicals, Occupational Disease and Hygiene Policy Branch is dynamic and fast-paced, covering workplace health and safety (WHS) issues relating to workplace hazardous chemicals, occupational diseases, and occupational hygiene.
Two positions are available in the Branch to deliver on high priority work on silicosis and other occupational diseases:
Director, Silica Policy - Key projects include a review of the recent, and world first, engineered stone prohibition, and developing a model Code for working with crystalline silica.Director, Occupational Disease and Hygiene Policy - Key projects include developing a model Code of Practice for Infectious diseases/biological hazards and review of requirements in the model WHS Regulations relating to air and health monitoring.To be a strong contender for the role(s), you will need to be a highly effective leader and strategic thinker with excellent judgement. You will also need to be an influential communicator and be able to develop and maintain relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will also need to have highly developed analytical and conceptual skills for effective decision-making.
You will demonstrate experience delivering complex policy projects, establishing and managing governance structures to deliver on government priorities, consulting and engaging with multiple external stakeholders, supporting and advising senior executives, leading teams, and managing change processes.
You will play a key role in translating the strategic goals of the Executive and SWA Members into operational goals, steering change and building the capacity and capability of SWA.
