The opportunity we have available
We are looking for an experienced program coordinator, who can successfully drive the delivery of Australia's New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES). The role will report to the NVES Senior Responsible Officer for the program, who sits within the Surface Transport Emissions Policy Division at the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts (DITRDCA). We seek candidates who have experience in, and an understanding of, the critical role project management and coordination plays in the delivery of a program of work. Demonstrated experience in managing or coordinating major projects across branches, divisions or departments, and projects with a significant systems and ICT infrastructure change, is necessary.
As the EL2 Director of the NVES Program Management Office, you will lead a small team of officers with skillsets in coordination, secretariat and change management. You will oversee, coordinate and report on the work of two branches (five-six sections) who are driving the establishment of the NVES within existing and new vehicle regulation systems and policies.
Our ideal candidate will be an experienced manager with strong examples of coordinating complicated change and delivery within diverse environments. You will be comfortable working adaptively using agile routines and methods to drive clear deliverables within dedicated timeframes. You will work with public servants whose expertise and engagement covers almost every area of the public service: policy development and delivery; data and ICT systems; regulation and governance; secretariat; net zero; vehicle regulation; climate change; and evaluation and monitoring. You will drive a team to provide excellent secretariat support and service to the NVES Steering Committee, which will continue to meet every 6-8 weeks for the duration of delivery. You will have a strong command of project management architecture and be able to use it to establish compliance within and across NVES teams.
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate they can:

Enable staff to deliver their best;
Establish and maintain key strategic relationships with a broad range of stakeholders;
Be responsible for the NVES Project Schedule and maintaining its authority across multiple streams of work;
Coordinate reporting activities, with project leads, to maintain our accountability to and our visibility with the NVES Steering Committee;
Develop, deliver and maintain business and risk planning, including identifying, investigating, analysing and/or mitigating potential risks to projects integrity, initiating appropriate action or escalating if necessary;
Work closely with project leads and responsible project officers to ensure that issues are identified early and resolved or flagged in the appropriate fora;
Develop and maintain a healthy project architecture, including the appropriate software, that can be used across multiple areas to track progress against each NVES deliverable and forward plan and monitor progress in the coming year;
Develop and maintain a robust and fit-for-purpose record-keeping protocol that is audit-ready;
Work flexibly, proactively, and react quickly to changing priorities and deadlines; and
Have demonstrated ability to manage urgent priorities and problem-solve.

Experience managing large and/or complex government projects will be seen favourably.
The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate their capability against the EL2 Work level standards.
