Role Overview
The Carbon Market Institute (CMI) is looking to hire a Media and Communications Director, with confident communication and people skills to join a passionate and dedicated team. You will have experience in media engagement and education campaigns, with demonstrable strategic development and project management skills. In this position, you will be required to manage all reactive and proactive media, design and execute public media strategies, as well as create and maintain key relationships.
You will demonstrate a wide degree of creativity with a keen interest in shaping an organisation's image and values with the ability to show initiative and work comfortably under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Top candidates will display natural leadership qualities; including time management, planning and problem-solving skills.
This is a full-time position, but a four-day position may be considered for the right candidate. The position would preferably be based in Sydney or in Melbourne. Candidates based elsewhere within Australia will be considered. The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years' experience in media and communications management or similar strategy-focused roles. The position reports to the CEO, has line responsibility managing consultants and a staff member. In this position you will work closely with CMI Executive and team members.
The salary expectation is between $100 000-$120 000, dependent on experience.

Key Responsibilities
ROLE DETAILS
The position reports to the CEO, will participate in operational Executive meetings, and will manage media and other staff or contractors as reasonably required by the CEO.
The core responsibilities include:
Lead the development, update and reporting on CMI's Communication Strategy ensuring key messages align with and help deliver CMI's vision, mission, and objectives. Writing, editing and assisting in the production of campaigns and materials including media releases, opinion pieces, reports, briefings, factsheet and presentations. Facilitate press conferences and briefings. Scan the media marketplace to keep up-to-date on the latest media trends and identify press opportunities through evolving issues. Management of media contact lists and building and developing direct media relationships. Providing counsel to the Executive Team and Board to ensure risk mitigation, and consistency of response and messaging for external communications. Work alongside the Executive and relevant staff to coordinate, monitor and communicate on proposed regulatory and industry changes as well as other climate issues. Strategic oversight and coordination of CMI's digital communications assets, including website, and other digital platforms. Coordinate the designing of individual media and social media campaigns and strategies. Strategic oversight of key event and media/communications collateral (including for digital, print and video channels). Work with Executive Team on advocacy, engagement and relationship building strategies, including interactions with decisionmakers and stakeholders. Participate in and promote a learning, team-based culture. Other general duties as required. Skills & Experience
Bachelors degree in communications/media or related (essential). At least 5 years of work experience in strategic media/communications roles (or similar, such as roles as a journalist). Experience in climate, carbon market or sustainability communication issues (highly desirable). Demonstrable experience with building effective media campaigns. Ability to create appropriate content for dissemination via press releases, social media, websites, and other distribution channels. Ability to nurture long-term relationships with key media influencers. Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and research skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Highly desirable: knowledge of MailChimp and Wordpress Platforms. TO APPLY
