We regulate providers that deliver VET qualifications and courses to students in Australia or offer Australian qualifications internationally, providers that deliver VET courses to overseas students, and certain providers that deliver English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students. We also accredit VET courses to make sure nationally approved standards are met.

We ensure quality VET so that students, industry, governments and the community have confidence in the integrity of national qualifications issues by training providers, and that students are protected from any practices that come at the expense of their ability to gain the required competencies.

About the opportunity 
We are seeking a Director, Data, Reporting and Analytics to lead the team responsible for ASQA's data information resources and their use.

Key responsibilities include:
development and implementation of data acquisition, analysis and reporting strategies to continuously improve the regulatory data set, inform regulatory policy advice, and support best practice risk based regulatory approachesdefining and classifying data as outputs of our regulatory activities from across ASQA and supporting a high-performance culture through the effective use of data to understand and improve the efficient and effective delivery of regulatory outcomescollaborating across ASQA to support management of publication of information about our regulatory activity and decisions so that the Australian community can access information about ASQA's insights into sector performance and quality VETleading a team of data professionals to deliver on key business priorities, managing and reporting on performance, and building individual, team and organisational capabilityleading ASQA's participation in whole of VET sector data strategies to improve the quality, availability and timeliness of data relating to the VET sectorsupporting the Executive Director in leadership of the Policy and Partnerships Groupworking in partnership with other key stakeholders, internal and external to ASQA, in particular:ASQA's Executive CommitteeDepartment of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR)National Centre for Vocational Education ResearchEnsuring continuous improvement is planned and delivered across all areas of functional responsibility.  Skills and experience 
To succeed in this role, you will have:
a sound understanding of behavioural science, statistics and evaluation methodologies, with an ability to apply critical thinking to information from a wide variety of sources, and to analyse a range of complex issues and identify gaps and potential issuesdemonstrated experience in providing high-quality strategic advice to senior management and preparing reports, including the ability to communicate the inherent value of accurate, robust, and reliable data and intelligenceproven ability to apply resources to effectively and efficiently identify and manage risks proportionately and to make clear, well-reasoned, timely decisions in a fast-paced and changing environmentstrong leadership capability including demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for improvement and to lead and manage change including through understanding the emergence of new research and information technologiesthe ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders and build trusted relationships and partnerships, including high level ability to influence, obtain timely information and manage sensitive information appropriatelya sound understanding of best practice regulation (an advantage but not essential). This position is available as an ongoing or a non-ongoing opportunity. Non-ongoing opportunities will be offered for an initial fixed term period of up to 12 months, with the potential to be extended further or to becoming ongoing. 

This selection process may be used to establish a merit pool. The merit pool may be accessed to fill ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for similar roles within ASQA or across the APS over the next 18 months.

Eligibility to apply
Under Section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian Citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing, to the contrary.
