Remuneration: EL2: $138,469 to $166,214 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation

About the agency

The Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency (ASSEA) is a small agency established in 2013 to oversee national actions to improve asbestos awareness and the effective and safe management, removal, and disposal of asbestos. In December 2023, the agency's functions were expanded to include silica.

About the role

The Director reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and provides strategic oversight and leadership of ASSEA's national coordination function including national strategic plans, policy, and specialist advice. Responsibilities include:

Secure strategic commitment to complex national coordination frameworks through effective stakeholder engagement. Provide oversight for ASSEA's strategic forward policy agenda in consultation with other leaders. Oversee the development, implementation, and review of the silica transition program. Provide specialist advice for internal teams and external stakeholders. Represent ASSEA on relevant external technical committees. Identify emerging issues and opportunities through ongoing analysis. Coordinate ASSEA's stakeholder outreach and public relations efforts. Contribute to agency-wide strategies and planning. Lead a diverse team of high-performing professionals. Manage governance responsibilities aligned to agency delegations. Demonstrate organisational flexibility by undertaking other duties as directed. Skills and capabilities

Key skills include expert knowledge of work health and safety risk management, demonstrated experience providing specialist expertise, ability to lead strategic coordination activities, high-level communication skills, and experience in developing and managing key strategic relationships.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment with ASSEA, you must be an Australian citizen and undergo a police record check. The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Baseline level security clearance.
