Located in Coopers Plains, Brisbane, Forensic Science Queensland (FSQ) operates specialised Forensic Biology and Forensic Chemistry functions that support the criminal justice and coronial systems in Queensland.
FSQ are seeking an accomplished leader to assume the role of Deputy Director, Forensic Operations, a position critical to our mission of providing exceptional forensic services and expert guidance to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland. In this strategic role, you will be at the forefront of driving our organisational goals, overseeing the delivery of forensic services, and steering a team through complex scientific and operational challenges.
The Deputy Director will be responsible for setting and advancing our strategic and operational objectives, ensuring the highest standards of forensic service delivery. You will provide expert analysis and advice on Forensic Biology and Chemistry, identify potential threats and opportunities, allocate resources effectively, and monitor performance against our strategic plans. Your role will also involve enhancing our forensic services by leveraging your deep understanding of the forensic environment, fostering effective partnerships with industry, academia, and government, and maintaining adherence to service standards. Additionally, you will represent the organisation and deputise for the Director as required.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in leading forensic teams, balancing priorities amidst resource constraints, and driving organisational change. You will have a proven track record of success in forensic service management, with a demonstrated ability to strategise, prioritise, and manage risks. Your expertise should include reviewing and enhancing forensic service systems and risk management, along with excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with senior stakeholders. A thorough knowledge of quality systems and forensic accreditation, including NATA standards, is essential.
A Bachelor's degree or higher in science, forensic science, applied science, or a related field from a recognised institution is required. While not mandatory, postgraduate research qualifications and a history of publishing significant forensic science work in peer-reviewed journals, as well as experience in project management and/or change management, will be highly regarded.
