The ClubRoyal Hobart is recognised as Tasmania's premier members' Club and championship course and has hosted several major state and national events, including the 1971 Australian Open.
Located at Seven Mile Beach, the Club is 20 kilometres from Hobart on the Eastern Shore of the Derwent River.
The Royal Hobart Golf Club was founded in 1916, and the Royal Charter was conferred in 1925.
The Club currently has 1,100 members across all categories with a $3.1mil annual turnover.
The roleAs the Course Superintendent at Royal Hobart Golf Club, you will be responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the golf course and surrounding landscaping.
This full-time salary role plays a crucial part in ensuring the golf club maintains its high standards and provides an exceptional experience for members and visitors.
As Course Superintendent you will:
Oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance, including turf management, irrigation, and equipment maintenance
Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance plans to keep the course in pristine condition
Manage a team of greenkeepers and groundskeepers, providing direction, training, and performance management
Monitor and maintain the health and appearance of the course's landscaping, including trees, shrubs, and gardens from the entrance, including the Carpark and surrounds
Coordinate with the club's management team to ensure the course is aligned with the club's strategic objectives
Monitor and manage the course's budget, ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations
Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve the course's condition and playability
Be an active participant in the future course redesign and planning, to meet the objectives and key targets of the management and members in the delivery of a premium golf course
Reporting directly to the General Manager and working with The Golf Committee with monthly meetings to effectively communicate to a high level the targets for each month to be achieved with the team.
Ideally, the successful candidate would have:
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Horticulture, Turf Management, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Course Superintendent or in a similar role of a 2ic in the golf course industry.
Demonstrated expertise in golf course maintenance, including turf management, irrigation systems, redesigning and building new greens and tees and equipment operation and maintenance.
Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to build and motivate a high-performing team.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to changing conditions and requirements.
Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise with various internal and external stakeholders.
A passion for golf and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of course presentation and playability.
A knowledge of grass maintenance in a cooler environment
