The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for profit community-based organisation that includes: Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool, the Australian Centre for Rare Trades and Arts and the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections. It cares for a nationally and internationally significant collection of over 150,000 objects and protects the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Victorian gold rush.
We are an Australian tourism icon that attracts some 500,000 visitors annually. The Outdoor Museum is internationally renowned as a living museum featuring rare trades, and programs and experiences that interpret a pivotal point in Australia's history. In all, some 350 staff work to bring our gold-rush story to life. They are supported by over 250 volunteers.
About the Role
The Chief People Officer is responsible for building a workplace of the future for Sovereign Hill Museums Association and creating an environment where people thrive. The role unlocks talent in our team and creates a values-based culture of engagement, safety, innovation and collaboration, and leads the delivery of our People and Culture Plan and associated road maps and processes. This includes: ensuring the function operates as a critical business partner to achieve the strategic imperatives of the organisation, advising the CEO, Executive team and Board on organisational culture and people-centred practices, contributing across the organisation as a critical source of expertise and insight on key issues related to People and Culture.
The role demands the ability to work across tactical and operational and strategic domains in order to lead the function effectively. Key areas of work include:
industrial relations and oversight of the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement ensuring appropriate management strategies, policies and practices promote employee commitment, performance and wellbeing. providing legal, legislative and policy guidance regarding the employment cycle of team members. managing and at times leading the process to resolve low to complex employee relation matters. the provision of effective and efficient People services throughout the organisation such as payroll management, day-to-day support for our operations managers including recruitment. leading the OHS function, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and best practice workplace safety. ensuring effective training and development opportunities are introduced to build capability across the organisation and ensuring mandatory compliance training is scheduled and delivered annually. structuring for success performance enhancement board reporting and governance Experience
To be successful in this role, applicants will need to demonstrate at least 10 years' experience operationally leading an Human Resource function at a senior level or directly supporting operation managers and Executives on people and culture matters in a contemporary organisation. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of people from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences is key. Political 'nous' and understanding of organisational behaviour and its impact on strategic priorities and performance coupled with strong analytical and conceptual skills is a must.
Qualifications
Degree level qualifications in Human Resources or related discipline such as business or law. Desirable to have an MBA or other relevant post graduate qualifications. Certification of relevant professional associations or peak bodies would be well regarded for example – a Certified or Fellow Practitioner Human Resources with the Australian Human Resources institute (AHRI)
This is a full time role with the expectation to work on some weekends and public holidays. Flexible working conditions are on offer such as hybrid onsite and working from home but the majority of time will need to be on site.
