The organisation has a mission to bridge the gap in access to psychiatric services for veterans, offering both telehealth and face-to-face care through an expanding network of healthcare facilities.
With plans to launch a new clinic in Brisbane in early 2025, the organisation is growing its psychiatry services and looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to help lead this important work. Veterans will benefit from a comprehensive, tailored approach to mental health, which is grounded in trauma-informed care and a commitment to long-term support.
Role Overview
A Consultant Psychiatrist is sought to provide expert psychiatric care to ADF veterans, initially through telehealth consultations, with in-person appointments available once the Brisbane clinic opens. This role includes conducting psychiatric assessments, offering ongoing care, and providing tailored mental health support for veterans, with a focus on the unique challenges they face.
This position offers variety, allowing the psychiatrist to conduct DVA psychiatric assessments and provide continued care through both remote and face-to-face consultations, once the new clinic becomes operational.
Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for veterans under the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) guidelinesProvide opinions and produce reports and reviewsDeliver initial consultations via telehealth, with the option for face-to-face appointments once the Brisbane clinic opensOffer ongoing telehealth and in-clinic psychiatric consultationsDevelop and review eating disorder management plansPrescribe medication as neededWhat is on Offer Expert Leadership: Work alongside an experienced Chief Medical Officer, who is a recognised authority in veteran mental healthFlexibility: Enjoy the option to work from home with the potential for in-clinic appointments as the role evolvesSupportive Environment: Access to extensive administrative and clinical resources designed to streamline practice and improve efficiencyImpactful Work: Make a real difference in the lives of veterans and their families by addressing mental health challenges unique to their experiencesTeam Dynamics: Join a growing, supportive team of 18 professionals, from executive to operational staff, dedicated to expanding psychiatric services for veteransHybrid Work Model: Telehealth services will be provided from home until the Brisbane clinic opens in early 2025, after which in-person consultations will be expectedQualifications and Skills Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP)Current medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)Experience or strong interest in veteran mental health and trauma-informed careExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to balance telehealth and in-person consultations effectivelyExperience working with ADF veterans is desirableAbout You
