Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee Council is inviting for Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified individuals for appointment as an external independent member to the Wagga Wagga City Council Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC).
This is a remunerated position with at least three positions available.
Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee members are expected to meet the following criteria: Independent and objective Significant recent and relevant professional management/audit experience with a comprehensive understanding of accounting and auditing standards in a public sector environment Relevant professional qualifications, such as accounting, legal, work health and safety, risk management, auditing, business or planning Understanding of / experience in Local Government, including understandingcontemporarygovernance,riskmanagementandcompliancechallengesfacing Local Government Current or prior experience on similar committees What you will need to succeed: An ability to read and understand financial statements and a capacity to understand the ethical requirements of government (including potential conflicts of interest) Functional knowledge in areas such as risk management, performance management, human resources management, internal and external auditing, financial reporting, accounting, management control frameworks, internal financial controls, governance (including planning, reporting and oversight), or business operations.
A capacity to form independent judgements and willingness to constructively challenge/question management practices and information.
A professional, ethical approach to the exercise of their duties and the capacity to devote the necessary time and effort to the responsibilities of an independent member of an audit, risk and improvement committee, and Preparedness to undertake any training on the operation of audit, risk and improvement committees recommended by the chairperson based on their assessment of the skills, knowledge and experience of the independent member.

Commitment: Council will be expecting new members to commence duties at the ARIC meeting to be held on 20 February 2025.
The Committee currently meets at least five (5) times in each calendar year- in February, May, August, October and November.
Remuneration: The current meeting fee is $1,179.59 (independent committee member) and $1,415.52 (independent committee chairperson), inclusive of travel, accommodation, preparation and on-costs and exclusive of GST.

Applications close on Monday 9 December 2024 at 11.59pm AEDST A short interview will be conducted with shortlisted candidates (either via videoconferencing or in person).
It is anticipated interviews will be held early during the week of 16 December 2024 .

Assessment of applications will be conducted in accordance with Council's Appointment of organisation community and individual citizen members to Council Committees Policy (POL 117) and reported to Council for consideration and appointment of Committee members in January 2025.
