About Inland Rail

The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

With a focus on leadership, commercial acuity, strategic advice, and superior negotiation skills the Commercial Director Northern NSW role is an outstanding opportunity to make your mark and shape Inland Rail across a 500km program in NSW, spanning Narromine to the QLD Border.

Reporting the Regional Director Northern NSW and as the key member of the Northern NSW development team, you will be responsible providing leadership and direction for all commercial activities occurring within Northern New South Wales (NNSW) region.

Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Provide visible leadership as part of the Northern NSW team to implement culture change in line with the stated Vision, Purpose and Values of IRPL as a newly established entity.
Lead and advise at an advanced level on commercial strategy, procurement and negotiations to support the delivery of the Northern NSW program in a timely manner, considering commercial risk. This includes delivery strategies, procurement, state and council agreements, other third-party agreements contract establishment, commercial management, contract performance, dispute resolution and conclusion.
Through appropriate commercial guidance, contribute to the establishment of an integrated NNSW team in the capacity of a 'Direct Client' to deliver approved project works and other agreed scope activities.
Ensure the Inland Rail Program in NNSW is compliant with all procurement and contract management procedures and processes including probity; as well as federal and state legislation, standards, and corporate governance requirements.
Lead the strategic considerations of commercial documentation required to support future investment decisions.
Provide strategic, risk and commercial advice and analysis to the NNSW Leadership Team.
Critical to the Commercial Director role is the ability to act as a change agent through the establishment and rollout of programs related to organisational culture and ways of working. Additionally, there will be expectations to travel intra/interstate on ad-hoc basis based on project requirements.

About you

As a highly skilled communicator, you will be adept at leading teams and providing strategic guidance on commercial and contract matters to executive leadership teams. Additionally you will have proven experience in collaborative environments with the ability to influence diverse audiences, including Board members, General Counsel, Chief Commercial Officer and executive leadership to achieve the best outcomes for projects.

You will also be able to demonstrate:

Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Business, Engineering, Property, Law or any other relevant or similar degree.
Experience in a team leadership role, including delivering leadership initiatives, culture change and change management programs.
Extensive experience providing strategic commercial advice while leading and managing delivery procurements on large infrastructure, rail or construction projects of similar nature.
Demonstrated high level commercial and contractual management skills and acumen, and a comprehensive knowledge of the commercial and contractual management, and governance requirements of major infrastructure projects.
Extensive experience in managing commercial contracts across diverse contracting models, including commercial negotiations.
Strong understanding of Construction and Procurement Law, familiarity with government, regulatory and statutory procurement requirements
