Now is an exciting time to join The Sutherland Hospital, with our $81.5 million expansion nearing completion. The Sutherland Hospital is a 375-bed, major metropolitan hospital and an associated teaching hospital of the University of NSW. Where you'll be working: Gurung (Child & Adolescent Ward) consists of a level 4, 10 Bed Child & Adolescent Unit, Known as Gurung (with the Capacity to SURGE to 18 beds), and a level 3, 4 bed Special Care Nursery. Gurung (Child & Adolescent Ward) at The Sutherland Hospital cares for children and their families 0-16 years. Newborns and children presenting with a variety of acute/chronic illnesses and conditions are cared for within the service. Infants and children may present with common paediatric illnesses along with general surgical, orthopaedic, gastroenterology, respiratory or neurology conditions. Patients are cared for by Paediatricians and/or specialist physicians and surgeons. The service offers a Child Acute Review Service (CARS) for patients and families for continuity of care in the community. The service also offers a Hospital School with designated teaching staff employed by the Department of Education. Gurung, (Child and Adolescent Ward) promote the principles of the Breast Friendly Health Initiative and The Sutherland Hospital is a BFHI accredited facility. Our Hospital and Community: Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire, colloquially known as 'The Shire'. Part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and located in Caringbah, the hospital campus is close to some of Sydney's great beaches, restaurants, bars and cafes at Cronulla and is close to the beautiful Royal National Park. At Miranda, just a short walk away from the hospital, there is a Westfield Shopping Centre and cinema complex. The Clinical Support Officer (CSO) is responsible for supporting work activities of the Nurses, Medical and Allied Health staff with locally determined shift times based on patient and service delivery needs. • The CSO may provide support across the facility or to more than one service. • The CSO is required to work closely with existing administrative staff. • The CSO role compliments existing roles, systems and processes within the organisation. • The CSO is expected to provide timely and accurate administrative / transactional services for members of the healthcare team on their designated ward(s)/ unit(s) under the direction of the NM/ NUM/ MUM/ CNC. • The CSO works under broad supervision, however is required to take some independent action. Scope exists for exercising initiative in the application of established work practices and procedures. Decisions affecting the overall functioning and management of the ward/unit/ service remain the responsibility of the NM/ NUM/ MUM/ CNC.
