Support groundbreaking innovation and discovery

About the organisation

Established in 1853, the University of Melbourne is a leading international university with a tradition of excellence in teaching and research. The Cumming Global Centre for Pandemic Therapeutics (CGCPT) is a newly created mission-driven, global research centre to enable rapid design and development of therapeutics for future pandemics.

About the role

The Business Development Director CGCPT will provide full lifecycle research commercialisation leadership to the CGCPT, identifying and pursuing strategic partnerships and commercialisation avenues for the Centre's newly developed research and IP assets. This includes working collaboratively to develop and drive business development strategy, identifying opportunities for growth, collaboration, and commercial partnership between researchers and external partners, and negotiating and closing transactions to the mutual benefit of the stakeholders and within the mission of the CGCPT.

About you

You are a highly regarded research commercialisation professional, with deep expertise in leading and negotiating major life science deals, particularly in relation to industry partnerships, contracts, licensing, start-ups and spinouts. You have strong life science industry experience, sector knowledge (including a thorough understanding of drug development pathways) and networks, and you have enjoyed considerable success in securing funding to support research translation and commercialisation. Highly credible across both industry and academia, you are a collegiate and collaborative builder of strategic relationships, and a naturally empathetic and supportive leader of people.
