Assistant Director, Schools Planning

Schools planning represents a critical element of contemporary city building. Within the ACT, schools planning is a well-resourced important step in building new communities as well as maintaining Canberra's position as Australia's 'education capital'. We are looking for an experienced built environment professional to help lead the identification and selection of sites for new schools, as well as plan for the expansion of existing ones. The ability to interpret and respond to ACT development proposals that may impact existing schools, or potentially require future ones, will also be required. You will have the opportunity to manage a diverse range of projects that will ensure strategic planning and detailed site planning in both established urban and new greenfield areas meet the Directorate's requirements for well-located and timely school infrastructure. We are looking for a person with sound understanding of the ACT land use planning process as well as project management, including procuring and managing consultants. You will bring your strategic planning skills and experience to helping solve complex challenges. Eligibility/Other Requirements: Relevant tertiary qualifications in urban/town planning, or urban design, or architecture, or a related land-use planning field is highly desirable. Experience and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite is highly desirable.
