ACT Policing Senior Team Leader - Communication & Government Relations The mission of the Australian Federal Police is to provide dynamic and effective law enforcement to the people of Australia.

ACT Policing are seeking applications wishing to be considered for the newly created role of Senior Team Leader, Communications and Government Relations (CGR), Band 8.

ACT Policing's CGR team is responsible for providing proactive and reactive media strategies and responses, expanding ACT Policing's digital footprint, including being responsible for production, web content and social media channels, strategic internal and external communications and wider community engagement at public events as well as being responsible for the ministerial functions through to the ACT Government.

Reporting directly through to the CGR Coordinator, the Senior Team Leader will directly manage a small group of Band 7 Team Leaders who are all responsible for their own team and specific function within CGR.

The responsive nature of policing and the requirement to lead, at times, emergency media and communication responses means the role will require work to be performed outside of standard business hours.
Relevant allowances, in addition to a base salary, will be offered for additional hours required outside of the AFP's core business hours.

As a Team Leader you also play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual.
Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.

What will you do?

Manage the daily operations of CGR's core functions, which include media, digital engagement, strategic communications, public engagement and government relations; Facilitate and foster productive relationships with ACT Government Directorates as well as the wider Australian Federal Police; Provide oral and written advice that is timely, comprehensive and drives business outcomes; Providing a strategic oversight to four high-performing teams and Team Leaders within the CGR function of ACT Policing; Liaise, as required, and provide advice to ACT Policing's Senior Executive on all issues related to media, communication and government relations; Ensuring ACT Policing is adopting best-practice and contemporary media and communication techniques for the wider benefit of the organisation.
Minimum Requirements:
University qualifications and/or extensive experience in different aspects of media, digital engagement, communications and/or government relations; Leadership experience of a small-medium sized team and leadership attributes to ensure the high performance of ACT Policing's CGR team; A demonstrated understanding of and an interest in the current political environment and how that impacts a law enforcement body; Demonstrated stakeholder management skills and ability to build and foster productive working relationships; Experience and ability to respond to multiple and conflicting deadlines in a high-pressure environment; A team-first ethos that contributes to a positive workplace culture; Experience in a similar role in a policing, law enforcement or government environment will be welcome and highly regarded, but is not essential.
You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Relevant qualification or extensive experience and knowledge in area of expertise.
