Position Overview: We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Youth Worker to join our I ndividual Transition and Support Service team.
This is a full-time permanent position available immediately.
As a Youth Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing intensive one-on-one support to young males and females aged 10-18 years who are sentenced to detention or on custodial remand at Banksia Hill Detention Centre and Unit 18 (located at Casuarina Prison).
Collaborate with Banksia Hill Detention Centre and Unit 18 staff, as well as other stakeholders, within Centrecare's Therapeutic Framework for consistent program delivery.
Manage a caseload, providing casework and maintaining client-related tasks such as case notes, assessments, and support plans.
Build respectful and supportive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including families.
Focus on early intervention strategies to prevent escalation of risk, implement appropriate counselling techniques, and engage with families to facilitate successful transitioning from detention to mainstream units or the community.
Participate in risk assessment, safety planning, and risk management for young people.
Selection Criteria Recognised Qualifications in Aboriginal Service Delivery, Community Development, Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work, or related disciplines.
Experience working with Aboriginal and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds.
Relevant experience in providing trauma-informed support to youth in correctional facilities.
Understanding of criminogenic factors of youth offending.
Experience working in correctional facilities and within multi-disciplinary teams (Desirable) Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
Able to work Saturdays and Sundays on a rostered basis as well as public holidays (excluding Christmas and Easter).
Possession of a Working with Children Card or ability to obtain one Current 'C' (previously 'a') class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
