A bit about the role Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, as the Manager Corporate Affairs you will be responsible for delivering expert governance and strategic advice across the organisation. This highly visible role involves providing critical guidance to Councillors, the CEO, and the Executive Leadership Team, while also fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders, including State Government ministerial offices, regulatory authorities, inspectorates, and the Council's Audit and Risk Committee.
You will oversee the development and implementation of robust processes, procedures, and practices to enhance internal capability and ensure best practice in governance and compliance. A critical aspect of this role will be building and leading a high performing, engaged, and cohesive team that is prepared to meet both current and future organisational needs.
To succeed in this role, you will bring extensive experience in advising senior leadership, coupled with a deep understanding of governance and corporate compliance in the public sector. You will have a strong grasp of the statutory responsibilities of local government, including election processes, and a proven ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders. Your leadership style will be defined by the ability to inspire and empower teams, driving a culture of excellence and innovation. Known for your integrity, discretion, and resilience, you will approach challenges with a strategic mindset and a commitment to delivering meaningful outcomes for the community.
What you'll deliver Targeted communication and marketing strategies to enhance Council's reputation locally, nationally, and internationally. Oversight of corporate governance, ensuring compliance with the Local Government Act and other legislation. Leadership and mentoring for a multidisciplinary team, driving a high-performance culture. Strategic advice to the Mayor, elected members, and Executive Team. Best-in-class governance frameworks and risk management initiatives to support Council's decision-making and operations. What you'll bring Proven experience in senior management roles within complex organisations. Exceptional people leadership skills, promoting cross-divisional cooperation. Expertise in corporate governance, communications, and stakeholder engagement. Strong knowledge of the Local Government Act and associated legislation. Exceptional interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong political and commercial acumen, with proven experience in the identification and planning for strategic threats and opportunities that could impact Council's reputation and brand. Tertiary qualifications in law, business, marketing, or a related field. A continuous improvement mindset with a positive, proactive, and flexible attitude. What's next?
