Our client, a leading surface engineering company established in 1992, is dedicated to advancing materials, technologies, and methodologies to enhance the performance and longevity of capital-intensive machinery components.
Their innovative technology offers cost-effective productivity gains and reduced ownership costs across sectors such as resources and energy, agriculture, advanced manufacturing, defence, and infrastructure construction.
We are seeking a dedicated Workshop Manager to oversee shop production processes at their Melbourne site.
The successful candidate will ensure production is cost-effective, efficient, of superior quality, safe, and environmentally friendly.
Key Responsibilities & Duties: Support revenue targets and provide budget input and recommendations to the General Manager – Production VIC & SA.
Deliver monthly production targets, achieving budgeted invoiced revenue.
Monitor productivity and efficiency, developing corrective action plans when needed.
Ensure timely, budget-compliant order completion, meeting quality standards and targets.
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of heavy machinery.
Resolve disputes and grievances, escalating to the General Manager – Production VIC & SA when necessary.
Ensure adherence to WHS guidelines and safe practices at all times.
Maintain professional presentation and good order of premises, plant, and equipment.
Provide timely, cost-effective business solutions in collaboration with the General Manager – Production VIC & SA.
Induct new workshop employees and ensure compliance with personal protective equipment rules.
Record and report all incidents, accidents, and injuries.
Focus Areas: Lead and manage Workshop Supervisors/Team Leaders efficiently.
Promote and enforce Work Health and Safety standards.
Support production with effective equipment utilisation and maintenance.
Optimise production output and gross margins, minimising quality costs.
Ensure accurate production costs versus estimates.
Guarantee on-time and in-full order delivery.
Drive continuous improvement in all areas of production.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience: Tertiary qualification in Team Supervision or a related field.
Trade qualification is highly desirable.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven people supervision skills.
Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking.
High degree of personal integrity and professional accountability.
Professional presentation and collaborative attitude.
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
Ability to build rapport and trust.
Passion for meeting and connecting with people to produce results.
Proficient IT skills.
Flexibility to meet work requirements as dictated by business objectives.
