The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is seeking expressions of interest for a Workplace Health and Safety Officer in the HR team.As the Workplace Health and Safety Officer (WHSO) you will provide and coordinate workplace health and safety services, including providing advice, conducting audits and risk assessments.This is a permanent flexible-fulltime position.
About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases.
The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Childrens Court of Queensland and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).
About your opportunity This is a permanent flexible-fulltime position.
As a Workplace Health and Safety Officer the incumbent will: Provide advice to management on all matters pertaining to the prevention of accidents, a wide range of hazard identification and control, promotion of health and safety, environmental and risk issues.Conduct proactive workplace inspections to identify hazards, and unsafe or unsatisfactory workplace health and safety (WHS) conditions and practices.Develop, promote and coordinate WHS learning, including training, reminders and tips.Collect data and provide reports on WHS matters.Facilitate the Office's WHS network including regular meetings and contact with Trained Safety Advisors, fire wardens, first aid officers and mental health first aid officers.Investigate and delegate the investigation of, WHS incidents reported through the DOJ WHS Management System.Represent the Office on relevant committees, at WHS related meetings and community of practices.The successful candidate will demonstrate: Knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice, and standards, and an ability to rapidly garner a thorough knowledge of the DJAG WHS Management System.Experience in identifying WHS hazards and risks and taking prompt action to rectify and mitigate hazards and risks when identified.Ability to build and sustain positive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including employees, managers and employee associations.Highly developed communication skills, including ability to analyse data and prepare reports associated with WHS.Commitment to professional and ethical standards, diversity and inclusion and strong cultural capability preferably developed in a frontline, client focused role.Possession of a certificate IV in WHS is highly desirable.
