About the Role As a WHS Officer at the APS6 level, you will play a critical role in fostering a culture of safety and well-being within the organisation.
You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety programs and policies that ensure compliance with legislative requirements and support the health and safety of employees, contractors, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities Develop and implement WHS policies, procedures, and programs aligned with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and organisational goals.
Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations, recommending corrective actions and monitoring their implementation.
Facilitate safety training, inductions, and workshops to build a strong safety culture across the organization.
Advise and support managers and staff on WHS compliance, best practices, and improvement opportunities.
Prepare and maintain accurate WHS documentation, reports, and records, including hazard registers and incident reports.
Coordinate emergency response plans and contribute to business continuity planning.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, to ensure effective communication and compliance.
Key Selection Criteria Demonstrated experience in a similar WHS role, preferably within a government or complex organizational environment.
Sound knowledge of WHS legislation, standards, and codes of practice relevant to the role.
Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, investigations, and safety audits.
Strong communication, training, and engagement skills, with a focus on fostering a positive safety culture.
Relevant qualifications in Work Health and Safety (minimum Certificate IV in WHS) or equivalent experience.
