Selection Criteria KSC1- Experience and ability in the development and implementation of proactive whole school and small group programs - aimed at increasing optimism, resilience, school engagement, connection, and positive wellbeing outcomes in adolescents.
KSC2 - Demonstrated experience in working with young people and their families, utilizing a youth focused approach, to build rapid engagement and to provide a range of service interventions to young people and their families - including case management, counselling, advocacy and safety planning
KSC3- Demonstrated experience in engaging and supporting children, young people and families with complex needs, in the child, youth and family welfare field . Particularly aimed at increasing wellbeing and school engagement, via onsite and outreach supports.
KSC4 -Demonstrated capacity to liaise, collaborate and develop positive partnerships with agencies and community services  to improve outcomes for students and their families
KSC5- Demonstrated ability to understand, empathise with and support students in a variety of challenging personal situations, through a good understanding of trauma and child and adolescent development.
KSC6 -Proven interpersonal skills including high level communication, initiative, self-motivation and capacity for innovation, together with the ability to work effectively and flexibly in a team environment and positively with families, external services and school staff.
KSC7 -Proven administrative skills and experience - including the ability to plan and undertake projects, problem solve, organise workloads and meet deadlines, document processes and practices and make clear recommendations, contribute to student education and wellbeing plans, together with the capacity to undertake risk assessments as required.
KSC8- Ability to use counselling principles and practices to support the needs of students and their families.
Role The successful applicant will work as a member of the college¿s Student Advocacy and Mental Health Services Team ¿ To provide wellbeing and engagement supports to students and families who are experiencing mental health, wellbeing and welfare concerns, as well as barriers to their school engagement and attendance. The Wellbeing and Engagement officer will focus on providing both preventative and targeted interventions, aimed at strengthening student wellbeing, engagement and attendance outcomes. The Wellbeing and Engagement Officer will be responsible to the Principal through the Assistant Principal (Wellbeing Leader), and the Student Advocacy and Mental Health Services Team Leader. In addition, they will liaise with Sub School Leaders, Year Level Coordinators and Teaching Staff to assist with the Colleges¿ response to the wellbeing needs of students and their families.
Responsibilities Provide professional student support services and case coordination to students and families aimed at increasing wellbeing and engagement at school. The Wellbeing and Engagement Officer will be responsible for supporting students who are identified by the Student Advocacy and Mental Health Services (SAMHS) Team as requiring wellbeing and engagement support. They will work under the direction of the SAMHS Team Coordinator and Wellbeing Assistant Principal to: Provide early intervention support to students and their families in order to improve the educational outcomes. Work with parents/carers and students to increase their ability to engage with and enjoy school, to develop positive social and emotional skills and to learn effectively. Assist in the planning, delivery and co-facilitate parenting workshops. Provide wellbeing and engagement outreach supports to families and students when necessary and appropriate ¿ At the direction of the SAMHS Team Leader and the Leadership Team. Develop, coordinate and provide small group tier two interventions to support student¿s mental health, overall wellbeing and increase connections to school. Make linkages and build relationships and referral pathways to maintain or create a range of local supports for young people and their families. Assist in the day-to-day intake and support processes within the Wellbeing Hub, including but not limited to, following up sub school concerns for students, completing intake or brief intervention, supporting students accessing the Wellbeing Hub for regulation or wellbeing breaks, completing risk assessments. Act as an initial contact person for staff and students accessing the Wellbeing Hub, by creating a friendly and welcoming space. Provide case-coordination and support to students and families experiencing wellbeing, poor attendance and school engagement concerns. Provide support to individual students to provide therapeutic supports and case coordination, implement Mental Health support plans, mental health safety plans or any other intervention recommended by the SAMHS Coordinator and Leadership Team. Work in close association with the Principals, Sub-school Leaders, Student Advocacy and Mental Health Support Team, Teachers and external agencies in the development and implementation of the policies and practices that support student success, engagement and wellbeing. Facilitate Mental Health Prevention and Promotion activities, events and groups that improve student resilience, wellbeing, connection and engagement. Use a range of school wide and DET data to identify students at-risk within the Woodmans Hill Secondary College community and establish individualized education programs, attendance improvement plans or pathways back to education for identified children or young people, in consultation with leadership, SAMHS Team and Sub School Teams. Work with the whole school wellbeing team to plan for and support students to re-engage with school and increase the attendance of all students. Work with existing agencies within the Ballarat area to support the development of individual education and engagement plans and programs. Utilise the full range of DET resources to support an individual child or young person at risk of disengaging or who has disengaged from school. Utilise highly developed communication and negotiation skills in a range of mediums to facilitate increased engagement for identified students. Establish and strengthen links and referral pathways between all relevant entities to optimize support for identified students at risk of disengagement. In consultation with the Student Advocacy and Mental Health Services Coordinator and relevant member of the Leadership Team, report cases of risk to relevant authorities and follow DET requirements. Conduct school-based meetings with students and parents. Assist families to access appropriate relief agencies. e.g. State School Relief, Smith Family. Support the SAMHS Team by providing Intake and Assessment to students at Woodmans Hill Secondary College. Including risk assessment, safety planning and risk management. Provide feedback and advice to staff on the wellbeing of students referred within the relevant privacy laws. Supporting the school to create clear referral pathways internally (within school) and externally (to community services) for students identified as requiring further assessment and intervention. Make linkages and build relationships and referral pathways to maintain or create a range of local supports for young people and their families. Proactively work with and support regional staff, school wellbeing and leadership teams, teachers, parents/carers and other external agencies to coordinate targeted mental health support for students. Provide support services for students on an individual basis, including liaison with parents regarding wellbeing, welfare mental health and academic progress concerns. Respond to crisis situations as they arise, implementing timely and appropriate support for students, families and staff. Including risk assessment, management and safety Planning. Support whole school events and awareness days, and groups targeting support and inclusion of specific students. Coordinate and facilitate the schools PRIDE Group for LGBTQIA+ students and allies. Creation/support creation of safety plans, student support plans and contribute to (Individual Education Plans) IEPs and (Behaviour Support Plans) BSPs. Attend and contribute to SSGs, case management & Sub school meetings, assisting to identify students at risk or facing difficulties with mental health, resilience, behaviour, engagement and attendance and developing inventions and strategies. Who May Apply A bachelor's level qualification or above qualification in a relevant field of study such as: Youth Work, Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or community Health and Welfare field is required.
