The product range includes specialised underground support vehicles and surface mining solutions, including extended-distance off-highway haulage trucks and water tanks to suit Caterpillar articulated trucks.
The Elphinstone range of underground support vehicles includes agitators, scissor lifts, delivery trucks, flat decks, fuel and lube trucks, water cannons, water tanks, motor graders and other specialised support equipment.
The existing range of products combine practical design, the latest technology and quality manufacturing to ensure each machine is safe, reliable, productive, ergonomic, and easy to service, maintain and re-build.
Elphinstone has built on this experience to enter the Defence industry, and are now seeking expertise to deliver our first major Defence manufacturing contract.
With exciting times ahead for Elphinstone Pty Ltd with new projects, we are seeking to employ multiple Welders / Boilermakers / Metal Fabricators to work at our Wynyard Tasmania, Australia site.
About Our Teams The Fabrication teams are a core part of our business in both our Defence and Yellow Iron Departments. The Fabrication teams play a pivotal role in the growth and development of our business through successful projects. Our Welder / Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator report to the Fabrication Team Leaders and will be part of a supportive and inclusive culture.
About the Role As a Welder / Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator working within the Elphinstone Defence team, you will be primarily responsible for carrying out fabrication, welding, and inspection tasks on the AS9 and AS10 structures, components, and sub-assemblies in accordance with our quality and safety requirements. You will also be upskilled in this role to be qualified in and welding of armoured steel. This role will be based at our Defence manufacturing facility in Wynyard Tasmania, Australia.
As a Welder / Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator, you can expect your day-to-day tasks to include but not limited to:
Read and interpret technical drawings of welded assemblies to determine specifications, tolerances and required materials to carry out the welding task.Comply with the relevant Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) before, during and after welding for operating parameters and temperatures, weld seam preparation, root gouging, welding sequence, use and handling of filler metals, visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing.Perform visual examinations of completed welds for compliance prior to being examined by the Welding Inspector within the quality team.Setup, operate and maintain various types of welding equipment and tools (e.g., welding torch, grinder, plasma gouger, overhead hoist, measuring tools) in a safe and efficient manner.Conduct welding operations to manufacture armour steel welded assemblies in accordance with the relevant drawings, standards, quality and safety requirements in the Defence team.About You At Elphinstone, our most important asset is our people. The experience and skillset suited to these roles may include:
Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade or equivalent welder's trade qualifications or extensive production welding experience.Experience in welding to a Welding Procedure Specification.Experience with the use of MIG and TIG welding and plasma gouging.Experience in welding High Hardness Steels (may be advantageous).Strong understanding of complete welding and fabrication of major assemblies (may be advantageous).Ability to read and understand specifications, technical drawings, work instructions and procedures of structural components and entire vehicles.Overhead crane operation. (Desirable. Training will be provided).Basic computer skills. (Desirable.
