The Business Unit Technical team is a small, dedicated team of technical and operational specialists based in Australia who provide direct support to the operations.

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Mining (Africa), the Underground Mining Manager provides tactical, operational, and strategic support that delivers maximum value for AngloGold Ashanti's operating assets and projects related to Underground Mining, Planning and Strategy in Africa.
This position requires on-site presence with quarterly travel to the operations.
Applicants should be prepared for international travel.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to be based in Perth and have the ability to travel and work in Africa in diverse and challenging operations.
Accountabilities: Mentor and develop the Underground Mining teams within the Africa BU to be competent in managing risks in the company. Identify ongoing improvement opportunities and ensure adequate support to operations to act on these opportunities. Provide expert Underground Mining input to risk-benefit scenarios in the tactical plans for the assets. Review, monitor and provide guidance to ensure the development of optimised operational mining plans. Drive and coordinate the Underground LOM process within the Africa BU through the development of robust strategic plans. Contribute discipline specific inputs towards the annual strategy and business planning process. Provide support and facilitate processes with Underground Mining experts to develop benchmark metrics, reports and standards for performance measurement. Lead projects/studies and interact with sites and consultant service providers. Audit on-site compliance to the agreed standards, procedures, processes, and specifications. Provide support to sites, BU, and Commercial team for the annual rate review process. About You People are at the heart of everything we do.

To be considered, you will demonstrate:
A degree qualification in a relevant mining-related discipline or other. At least 10+ years relevant experience in the mining industry. Experience in mechanised underground mining operations. Expert underground mine optimisation, design and scheduling. Ability to act as a QP for Mineral Reserves. Sound practical understanding of the entire mining value chain. Demonstrated strategic and analytic thinking. Demonstrated capability in organising work, setting priorities, and exercising sound independent judgement. Strong track record of practical implementation of analytical tools and analysis. Commercial acumen relevant to the role. Experience working in an expatriate role and willingness to embrace different cultures. Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people at all levels within the organisation. The ability to obtain a National Police Clearance. Existing and ongoing valid Australian working rights (Mandatory).
