Transport and Main Roads (Organisation site ) North Queensland Region; Program Delivery & Operations; Infrastructure Management and Delivery; Cairns An exciting permanent opportunity has become available for a Town Planner to join Transport and Main Roads, Program Delivery & Operations Branch, Far North District, based in Cairns.Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is committed to developing our staff and providing various paths to learning.Come and live in Far North QLD for a balanced and relaxed lifestyle, where you can enjoy a fulfilling career while also having time for leisure activities.The region offers opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking, snorkelling, and exploring the natural beauty of the region.In the role of Town Planner, you will be involved in development facilitation, infrastructure planning and network management with respect to the district's statecontrolled road network and provide specialist town planning and development facilitation advice in relation to transport planning undertaken by the Department, including the provision of specialist advice in respect to the application of the Planning Act 2016, and Transport Infrastructure Act 1994.Some of your responsibilities will include:• Provide specialist advice in respect to development applications in accordance with the Planning Act 2016, the Transport Infrastructure Act 1994 (TIA).• Provide specialist advice in respect to applications and/or enquiries relating to Works in State-controlled Road Reserves, Access to State-controlled roads, Property enquiries, Notifiable Road uses, Ministerial Designations, and so on.• Maintaining appropriate and effective liaison and communication with internal staff, State and Local Government agencies and the community relating to road infrastructure development activities.• Providing timely, high-level written and oral advice on town planning matters relating to the safety and efficiency of the transport network.• Apply relevant standards, policies, guidelines and legislative requirements in respect to development assessments and transport planning.• Assisting in the co-ordination of all relevant tasks to ensure successful completion of activities within time, quality, cost and stakeholders expectations.• Reviewing state and local government planning documents to assess their implications for Transport and Main Roads and provide response to those documents on behalf of the Region.• Assisting in the identification and provide advice on modifications or adaptions to town planning documents.• Managing projects throughout their life cycle including the efficient application of project management tools in relation to town planning.Mandatory qualifications and conditions• A degree from a recognised tertiary institution in town planning, urban and regional planning, or an equivalent qualification, is desirable.• Must be eligible to work in Australia.• Pre-employment check of serious discipline history for the recommended candidate(s) as a condition of employment.Why you should consider TMR:• Generous employer superannuation contribution - up to 12.75%• Five weeks annual recreation leave plus leave loading• Reimbursement of professional membership fees• Flexible work options• Professional development opportunities• Salary packaging arrangements• Health and well-being incentives• Assistance with relocation expensesApplications for this role may be used to appoint to similar vacancies within Far North District for a specified period up to 12 months after the closing date of the initial vacancy.
