Kimberley Renal Services (KRS) includes 4 Renal Health Centres based in Fitzroy Crossing, Broome, Kununurra, and Derby and a mobile prevention unit.
The incidence of Kidney Disease in the Kimberley is one of the highest in Australia. Chronic Kidney disease (CKD) and End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) incidence within the Aboriginal population of the Kimberley greatly exceeds the national burden of disease.

This is a highly attractive opportunity for a General Practitioner (GP) looking to expand their skill set into renal care and are interested in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

This role offers significant training and career development opportunities within the Kimberley Renal Service and the larger Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services.
Kimberley renal service has an opportunity for a qualified GP interested in nephrology and renal care to join our dedicated teams working in our centres in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. This vital role will see the successful candidate providing medical expertise to enhance regional efforts in the prevention, early detection and better management of chronic kidney disease.
The successful candidate will be based in Kununurra, while also servicing the Broome, Fitzroy Crossing, and Derby communities. You'll be supported by the Nephrology team at Perth Hospital both virtually and through regular visits.
The key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
Contribute your medical expertise to the planning and development of the Kimberley Renal Service Support ongoing development and refinement of clinical protocols for clients with kidney disease Provide medical support and advice to primary healthcare providers about clients in the region Contribute medical expertise to the pre-dialysis work-up by the KRS team for clients approaching end-stage kidney disease Contribute to the development and implementation of education and training strategies for healthcare providers and communities across the Kimberley, focusing on the prevention, detection, and management of kidney disease Participate in broader regional chronic disease effort Provide clinical governance leadership and continuous care quality improvement for clients To see the full position description, please click here .
About You This role will provide you with an unbeatable opportunity to learn about remote healthcare and renal care and gain experience not available in larger tertiary hospitals.
Experience in nephrology or renal care is not necessary for this role, we can provide all necessary training. You will bring your experience as a GP and passion for healthcare!
What you'll need to be successful:
Eligibility for registration in WA Significant and substantial experience working as a GP postgraduation High-level teamwork and communication skills Commitment to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control Working with Children Check While renal experience is not necessary, experience with end-stage kidney disease clients is desirable. Experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health or FRACGP or FACRRM would be an advantage.
