The role:
We are looking for a 1–4-year PAE lawyer to join Thomson Geer's busy tax practice in Melbourne in a corporate focussed front-end transactional tax and advisory role. The role involves advising on all areas of corporate tax including income tax, GST and stamp duty as part of front-end corporate M&A, real estate and banking and financing transactions and assisting with tax related drafting in transaction documents (such as Share / Asset Sale Agreements and Contracts of Sale etc). You will be working alongside and mentored by a renowned and respected tax partner and advising on many exciting and high-profile corporate matters as you assist in servicing and growing the leading and busy front-end tax practice in Melbourne.
It is a broad-based and challenging role which involves working with the various Thomson Geer corporate, real estate and banking and finance teams across Australia on many varied corporate tax related issues but the successful candidate will experience a collegiate environment in a great firm with on-going training, experience and mentorship.
The requirements:
To be successful you will need 1-4 years PAE, a high level of academic excellence, top quality technical and analytical skills, effective communication skills and the ability to work well as a team player.
The focus of the work will require a high-level of technical analysis in assisting with front-end tax queries across a wide variety of areas with a particular focus on income tax (as well as GST and stamp duty). While proficiency is not required in each of income tax, GST and stamp duty, any demonstrated income tax experience and related preparation of tax advice (including front-end tax memorandums) will be particularly helpful. A high level of attention to detail will also be required in drafting various advice and documents as well as a detailed understanding of the substantive tax laws and therefore experience in preparing tax drafting for corporate transaction documents will be highly regarded.
