ABOUT THE ROLE CareSouth's service delivery isexpanding with a new program that ensures children and young peoplewith disabilities are supported in a therapeutic environment tohelp them thrive. Working with the Department of Communities andJustice (DCJ), the Intensive Therapeutic Care (ITC) model supportschildren and young people who are unable to be supported in fostercare or require specialised and intensive supports to maintainstability in their care arrangements.
Complex mental health, intellectual and physical disability,emotional and behavioural issues are characteristics of thesechildren and young people, resulting in behaviours that oftenpresent a risk to themselves and others in their immediateenvironment.
The Therapeutic Specialist is a clinical expert who works acrossour ITC services to ensure therapeutic aspects of care are providedat all levels, including but not limited to, case plans,facilitation of care team meetings, assessment, formulation, andservice coordination. They also support the team to providetrauma-informed care to the children and young people in ourhomes.
This role works closely with caseworkers, DCJ and Central AccessUnit to ensure decisions are guided by the principles of permanencyplanning, therapeutic and trauma-informed care and reflect theneeds and aspirations of the child or young person as they progressthrough the program.
The goals of the ITC program include but are not limited to:
Provide a safe home like environment for12–18-year-olds.Have a strong focus on healing from trauma.Build life skills and connections for young people.Give young people as many chances as it takes to get itrightTO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU WILL NEED Demonstrate a commitment to thesafety of children, young people and people with adisability.Degree qualifications in Psychology, Social Work,Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing (Post GraduateQualifications will be highly regarded).A thorough understanding of the theories relating to andthe impact of trauma, abuse and neglect on a child or youngperson's development and well-being.Excellent written and oral communicationDemonstrated capacity to persevere and achieve positiveoutcomes when working with young people who have experiencedtrauma and have complex needs andExcellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstratedcapacity to work collaboratively with others and exerciseinfluence in a diversity of contexts.Experience in completing assessments for children andyoung people and using the findings to complete a comprehensivetherapeutic written report/care plan designed to inform staff andchild interactions and the Care Team's planning.
Understanding of requirements of working respectfully withAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally andLinguistically Diverse clients, communities and staff.Able to provide evidence (either on commencement or atmandated intervals) a certificate of completion of the NationalDisability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) online Worker Orientationmodule "Quality, Safety and You.Current registration with AHPRA where required oreligibility for registration with the relevant state body.Willing to undergo a National Police Check and obtain a(NSW) Working with Children Check Clearance, NDIS WorkerScreening Check and/or Working with Vulnerable People Card(ACT) and at mandated intervals.Current NSW driver's license (note that preferredapplicants for the role will be requested to provide evidenceof their driving history).
